Viewsonic Viewpad 100 Hands-on
While we were at the Viewsonic booth at IFA Berlin to view the Viewpad 7, we also took a quick look at the Viewpad 100. The Viewpad 100 is a dual boot tablet with Android 1.6 and Windows 7 Home Premium complete with a 10" screen and lots of other high-end components.
According to the press release and the representative that we spoke to, the reasoning for the choice of Android 1.6 over a newer version of android simply comes down to the fact that Android 1.6 was the highest supported Android OS for the Intel Atom processor they use. Expect updates to the Android OS sometime in the future.
The Viewpad 100 runs on an Intel Atom 1.66GHz CPU with 1GB of DDR3 RAM. The tablet also has a 1.3M webcam, and a 1024 x 600 LED panel.
Connectivity and storage-wise, the device has Wi-Fi, AGPS, and Bluetooth. The tablet also has 2 USB 2.0 ports, mini VGA port, and a G-sensor. The storage options are a 16GB SSD and microSD card support up to 32GB.
The device is not certified by Google unfortunately, so the Viewpad 100 does not have the Android Market pre-installed, but they expect to have the Android Market on it soon. Check out our hands-on with the device below:
The expected SRP of the Viewpad 100 should be no more than €549. Availability should begin in October 2010, but no word on what carriers or stores will be offering the tablet.
