A dual announcement of the Samsung built Google Nexus S and the availability of the Android Gingerbread SDK was made today on the Official Google Blog. Android Gingerbread will be shipping with the Nexus S starting as soon as December 16th and later. As for when the Nexus One will be getting the new update, Google's Andy Rubin was strangely quiet.
According to the post from Andy Rubin, some of the new features coming with Android Gigerbread include:
- better support for game development
- better integrated VoIP support
- native support for video calls
- improved cut-and-paste support
- NFC support
- new keyboard and text selection tool
- gyroscope sensor support
- UI refinements
