PhoneDog ran a story on Thursday that a new phone from Motorola passed the Wi-Fi Alliance testing and received a certificate for IEEE Standard 802.11b/g/n. However, the news of certification has gotten tangled up with rumors and pictures that seem to label the device as the Droid 2, Shadow, or the Nexus Two.
The picture above looks very similar to the Motorola Droid, and many individuals seem to think as much. However, sites such as AndroidCentral and AndroidGuys contend that this is the Motorola Shadow. They posted rumored specs including:
- Slide-out QWERTY keyboard
- 4.3" touchscreen
- 8 MP camera
- Android 2.2
- AT&T friendly
AndroidandMe has a different take on the news of the certification. They believe the Shadow will be carried by Verizon, a slate device (so no slide-out keyboard), and to have a 4.1" touchscreen. They also mentioned that Motorola had previously announced that they would release "at least one direct-to-consumer device with Google." However, considering that the Nexus One launched not so long ago, I am somewhat doubtful that we will see this as the successor to the Nexus One.
Once I find more reliable and concrete information, I'll post it up as this story has me interested.
