TMA: Motorola Bootloader Problem, The Note Goes North and More!

by Aaron Tilton on Feb 1, 2012 12:52:31 AM — read 1,386 times

Another day has set on the Android community and there's been a 'hole lot of Android news coming down the pipe. So you don't miss a thing we've boiled down some of the headlines you may have missed. In today's Too Much Android: Motorola customers band together to demand unlocked Bootloaders from Motorola, the popular Samsung Galaxy Note heads up Canada way and the Galaxy S gets a sneak peak at its first Ice Cream Sandwich build!

 Mororola's Locked Bootloaders Anger Customers

Back in 2011, Motorola answered the calls of its consumers and promised that the Motorola Droid RAZR would get unlocked bootloaders in 2011, allowing owners of the high end Android devices to customize their device as they see if. Well, it's 2012 now and there is still no sign of a wide market bootloader unlock. Despite Motorola releasing a new "Developers Model" with the much desired bootloader fix, angry customers who had been expecting Motorola to fulfill their commitments have banded together to form Operation MOSH (Make Our Voices Heard) to demand a new bootloader fix. Their demands are easy to guess:

“To let Moto know that this ‘Developer Edition’ had better be available either as a trade for our devices, paying the difference, or not at all, since we all bought our devices in hopes that they would keep their word in the first place.”

I personally would love an unlocked Droid RAZR so, Motorola, get with the unlocking! If you want to add your voice to the call check out the online petition.

Samsung Galaxy Note Goes North

The Galaxy Note is starting it's sweep of the North American continent in Canada. The tablet/smartphone hybrid will hit Canadia shelves Feb. 14th and will be stocked by Telus, Bell and Rogers. Best Buy is already taking pre-orders for the device for a $50 deposit and you'll be able to get it for a relatively low $200 from Bell on a two year contract. Not a bad price for one of the most impressive Android devices out there.

The Nexus S Gets Ice Cream Sandwich Early

A new test build of the next generation of Android OS- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich- has leaked out of the Sprint labs and is available to download as of today. Rumors point to the build being a final, stable version, of the Android distribution indicating that Sprint will be rolling out an official OTA update any day now. If you can't wait and feel brave enough to flash a new build of Android on to their Nexus S, the download can be found here.

A Light Show Powered By Android And Ikea

The Android modding community can really mod anything to incorporate their favorite mobile OS. This time it's a Spoka lamp from Ikea. The modders hardwired a bluetooth module to the popular discount lamp and with a little programing magic, were able to control the light patterns for one cool show. The creativity of the Android community is truly amazing.
