If someone has rooted the Xperia X10 already and has a working Android 2.1 ROM for it, then you could root your phone and install their 2.1 ROM, but I haven't heard of that happening yet.

Where did you see that the phone was getting Android 2.2?

You update the X10 through SEUS. You can download the update program and PC Companion from S/E's website.
Other options include Menu Key -> Settings -> About Phone -> Software Update. Another is through the program User Support -> Menu Key -> Check for updates.

Well, it was rooted not so long ago.
S/E remain tightlipped with regard to 2.2, but so far I look forward to 2.1.

With kind regards.

I wrote a blog post yesterday that the X10's upgrade to Android 2.1 has been pushed back to late October. You can read it here, or regularly check the "Blogs & News" section for current Android news.

Finally things begins to happen.
Since my X10 is an unbranded Nordic model, I expect to sample 2.1 tomorrow or monday. :-)

Android 2.1 on the X10 is nice, even if it leaves me with a slightly odd feeling with regard to all those bs posts about X10 running an "obsolete" OS.
After the update, there are some "bookkeeping" the X10 needs to do, so it may be a while before it really runs smoothly.

Thanks for the heads-up on the update. I wrote a blog on it yesterday after I saw your comment. So, does your comment mean that you already have the Android 2.1 update for the device? Or is that just what you've heard so far from people who have received the update? If you do have it already, what do you like about it especially?

Hello Douglas,

Sorry about the belated answer.

Yes, my X10 does run Android 2.1.

Everything runs smoother, and the X10 actually feels like a one GHz device.
The overall experience is more robust and more like what you'd expect from a handheld as an old (and still active) Symbian user.

Android imho still has some catching up to do though.

The X10 with each update become more and more like a good wine: better with age. :-)

Kind regards, Niels.
