Over heating and video syncing problems...
created on Jun 24, 2010 8:56:58 PM
Let me start by saying I love my desire and is the only phone that I've seen thus far to compete with the iPhone..BUT!! I have found a couple of major flause.... I would like to know if anyone is experiencing the same thing...

1. We all know by now that the battery lifespan is pants even when switching off Apps when not in use.....but now my desire is starting to get ridiculously hot when In use....o

2. I work in new media entertainment so I watch and create video content for all types of platforms...once again Internet browsing is a dream on this phone, but when it comes to watching video content I find when watching online footage it's always out of sync, an this problem alone makes me feel like the htc is not ready to take on mighty Apple at this stage.... this is just my humble opinion..let me know what you think....

3.the fact there is no forward or backward cursor keys so when making simple typing errors I have to fiddle about with my thumb for 20minutes trying to Target the precise spot that needs correcting....(20 minutes is a slight exaggeration but you get my point....)....let me know if you have the same problems or am I being to demanding........

There's many phones that are great alternatives to the iPhone.. many by HTC.. like my Eris (even better choices out now like the Incredible or Motorola's Droid X or 2).. that doesn't have any of the problems you have mentioned. My phone also has a trackball that I mainly use to correct spelling mistakes etc. My advice is to get a newer phone if you have the means to do so.. or when you can upgrade.. make sure it works the way YOU think it should. Also turning off Bluetooth and WiFi, as well as lowering the screens brightness helps save battery.

Your desire is alot like the incredible.. and looks like it has some type of finger pad in place of the trackball.. which should make editing words easy etc. As for the video problem.. it could by the settings within your phones browser.. or the website.. and if that's not the case.. it could be the network. You can also try downloading a different video player from the market.

Doesn't the Desire have some sort of mouse/trackball thing that you can use to move the text cursor around with?

How long have you had the phone for? I have heard about some battery issues, in regards to the Nexus One getting very hot while charging (especially in a car charger.) If it is getting so hot that it is hurting your hand, then your phone has a problem and you should contact HTC about getting a replacement.

Is your phone rooted? If you don't know, then it isn't.

What players are you using for your video playback? Have you tried more than one or tried reinstalling the player?

The HTC Desire is nothing to scoff at in the spec department, being the European cousin of the Nexus One. Battery life should increase soon, thanks to Android 2.2 being rolled sometime before Fall I would think.

Yes Douglas it does have a touch pad thing but I find it a bit sometimeish.....

I have had this phone for about a month now and yes when it gets hot it feels uncomfortable In the hand....

Have seen posts about rooting, but not sure what the benefits are and read if its not done properly you could endup crashing your phone beyond repair....is that true...?

I have not used any downloaded players....which ones would you recommend....I was talking about when generally wAtching content from the likes of YouTube or online tv stations such as famgo.com or catchtv.com these all are played out of sync...but when watching these same sites.on my Nokia 5800 these play fine without sending issues....

Waiting with anticipation for the new 2.2 upgrade as it promises big things.....

I didn't want you to root your phone, I was just asking if you had done it already.

Does sometimeish mean that you don't like to use the optical pad?

Does the video sync problem occur always, or only when it gets hot? I don't think it is a general HTC problem, as my HTC Dream (1st gen device) plays videos just fine.

As for the heat issue and video sync problem, I would once again recommend you send it in for testing/repairs/replacement. I am going to go out on a limb and say that it is a hardware issue and some sort of file corruption of some part of the firmware.
