Gtalk account address change..!!!!!!!!!!!!
created on Jul 6, 2010 8:34:53 PM
I want to change the e-mail that is currently on my Gtalk account but there is no option to log out so that I can log back in with my new details,but when i try to delete the original account it is says this e-mail is required by other applications blah blah blah you will need to restore your phone to Factory settings
is it true that at the moment the only way to change this account is to do a hard reset and if so does this reset delete anything on my sd card......?

I wasn't really sure at first. Then I saw what I assumed to be your post on another forums, and the answers they gave sound right to me. I'm curious as to why it won't let you log out though. Have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it? I also looked for a place where you could reinstall Google Talk from and couldn't find one.

Yes there is another way, try this:

- Settings->Applications->Manage Applications
- Gmail->Clear Data
- Gmail Storage->Clear Data
- Google Apps->Clear Data

Then when you launch GTalk, you will be prompted to sign in.

Is your phone rooted? If yes, then you most likely need to flash the gapps package for your ROM.

Sorry but the "other way" doesn't work when your phone comes with gtalk pre-installed. I haven't tried the factory reset yet but I tried this and the gtalk app still automatically logs me into the gtalk/gmail account automatically. I am guessing this has to do with T-Mobile being total crap but what a headache. Next I will try the reset...

All you need to do is go into settings, accounts and sync, click on your gmail account, then hit the remove account button (you might have to press menu key to see this option). Then next time you try to access Gmail on the Google Play market you will be prompted to enter a new address.

If you had read the original problem, "but when i try to delete the original account it is says this e-mail is required by other applications blah blah blah you will need to restore your phone to Factory settings ", you would understand that had already been tried.

On the Gnexus, its not required. What version of Android are you running?
