HowTo download and install the official 2.1 MR4 release Manually

If you haven't yet received the update on your Eris and cannot wait any longer, the OTC update is here on the Google servers for you to download and install manually.

http://android.clients.google.com/packages/desirec/OTA_Desire_C_Verizon_WWE_2.37.605.4_2.36.605.1_release.zip

PC Directions:

Insure you have battery charged half way or more before updating!

Download to your PC.. then Rename it update (it should look like this when done: update.zip).

Copy it to the root directory of your SD card (using usb cable), turn phone off, then power back on holding Vol-Down and End/Power, wait for option screen.. might take a moment or so.

Choose "recovery" from options (use Vol UP/DOWN keys, Power/End to select), then "Apply sdcard:update.zip", it will unpack the update etc.. then another option screen will appear..

Choose "Reboot system now"..

When it reboots you will see a green circle made from two arrows (looks like the round sync arrows) with an straight arrow in middle.. this will happen a couple times.

Then it will start to boot up like it usually does.. just slower..

It will hang a bit on the Verizon LOGO... don't panic... just wait... and now you are updated!

The URL looks strange, as it says Desire in there multiple times. This is for the Droid Eris?

The Eris updates always do.. back when I updated to the 2.1 leak it also said desire multiple times in the url.. I personally manually updated using this url and all is well.

Both phones are by HTC with same button/trackball layout and simalar specs..

Typing seems smoother.. Weather app working great; it use to have issues with location update when travelling from one area to the next. But the biggest improvement seems to be the "phone" features.. works better/faster.. less time waiting for it to open, dial, or connect call.
