That question is hard to answer. If I remember correctly, HTC said they would be pushing out Android 2.2 to any device that launched in 2010. I think the Droid Eris launched in 2009, but I'm not sure. Wikipedia says it launched in November 2009, so that is pretty close to 2010. That doesn't necessarily mean they will or they won't, we just have to wait for some official word. The good news is that the HTC Hero has already received Android 2.1, so the jump to Android 2.2 shouldn't be too difficult I would think.

I'm my opinion the eris will not receive the update.this is because the processor will not be able to handle the flash 10.1 support.if it does receive 2.2 i believe it will be a dumbed down version like what they did with 2.1 for the eris. (no live wallpapers due to lack of processing power). This however is just all my opinion take it for what it is worth.

Eris can and does run Flash 10.1!
I have it installed on my Eris and had posted a while back this fact. Plus it doesn't need root to do so... however; root will let you over clock an Eris to about 710 Mhz which is faster then the stock Motorola Droid.
