The truth is that there is a Android 2.2 ROM floating around for the international version of the Galaxy S (not yours). I have also read that the update should be coming out sometime this month (at least for the international version.) Your phone has only been out for a week or more, so don't expect them to already have an Android OS update waiting for you.

I've heard from a friend who has the Vibrant, that the gps is not so good on it. Do you know if the update to 2.2 includes any fixes for this?

From what I have heard, yes, the update should fix the problem. There are some fixes out already, but I don't think it works on every handset.

Samsung usa has started to send the froyo 2.2 update on the 7 th of Oct.and will be finished on the 30.ota update notifications are showing up on the phones.

i dont suppose anyone knows, if and when there will be an froyo/2.2 update for galaxy s users in the uk ?

The update has already begun in Nordic Europe, and should follow with the rest of Europe shortly. What exactly "shortly" means, no one but the people at Samsung can say.

Just did some digging later today and found that the update should be starting in "early" November and be done by the end of November.

Has anyone heard anything new? I read in another forum that 2.2 could be downloaded in US by using Kies. That would be wonderful, except that I have yet to be able to get Kies to recognize my Cappy.

Just go to xda-developers site or TeamWhiskey's site and look into Onyx and Obsidian. Note: as I've said this before in another thread, only try this if you are fairly tech savvy. Its not rocket science but its not idiot proof either... (no offense)
