Some people are saying that the update was bricking some phones, so they stopped the update process. Why would you want to install the update if there is a risk it could ruin your phone?

The froyo update (2.2) was released yesterday. do a manual update and download the file. I recommend having the phone charged completely as well as clearing the internal memory up to at least 30mb.

download and installing it took no more than 25mins and I had no issues afterward, although some other user as well as a colleague of mine reported start-up and performance problems after updating the software.
