Manual Network Selection created on Sep 22, 2010 10:50:17 AM
How do I set the phone for manual network selection? I do not want it automatically selecting networks as a travel through Europe.

What provider are you with, and what exactly is your problem? You connect to the networks of other telecom operators in your travels? Or are you talking about the data networks and roaming charges?
I just did a quick search here in Berlin on my phone and found Telekom, Vodafone, E-Plus, and O2. However, my phone sticks to Telekom. Go into Settings / Wireless Controls / Mobile Networks / Network Operators and try out some of the options. I think you can choose to have your phone automatically connect to the preferred network, or you can have the phone always stay on one network.

Thanks. We are with Swisscom. The problem is that we live close to the border with France and the phone keeps switching to one of the French networks. I can't seem to get it to stick to only Swisscom.

Have you tried disabling roaming under Mobile Networks?
This app might be what you are looking for, as it disables the data connection when you are on the wrong network. Try this one as well if the first one doesn't do its job right. This guy has the same problem as you, and the only advice that works for you is what I already said: tell your phone to not automatically connect to other networks. To do this on a G1 (I know that isn't yours), go to Settings / Wireless Controls / Mobile Networks / Network Operators / Available Networks / and choose Swisscom. Hopefully that will keep it on there. If that doesn't work, all I can say is call customer service or take it into a store and ask for some advice.
