You are better off using an app to delete Cache!

I use "Quick App Clean Cache" it is only like $.69 (69 cents)

Displays all applications cache size and provides direct access to system cache and data clearing.

* Works also on NON ROOTED phones
* Clear all (root only, one at once if not)
* Sorts by cache, data, source, total
* History(beta)
* Notifications
* Widget

Android 1.5 to at least 2.2r1

I can't say for sure about every cache, but I believe that in large part, the cache for apps contains information which, while not critical to the core functioning of the app, may contain information such as saved settings/scores/bookmarks/gestures/places/notes and other things like that. On the other hand, that information may also be saved on the SD card. If you aren't sure, do a Google search and see what you find.
