First problems with WeTab
created on Sep 26, 2010 6:12:45 AM
I live in the Netherlands and have picked up my WeTab 3G 32GB in Germany last Friday. I have a number of problems with it: My We-Tab accepts a regular KPN simcard without any problems. However it does not accept mij preconfigured T-Mobile Prepay simcard. This same sim-card works fine in my Toshiba-laptop. Another 3G-issue is that everytime I have to enter my country- & provider-settings. That is annoying! Sometimes I have to do "connect" on the Network Connection screen to have a wifi-connection wich I never disconnected. Touchscreen-response is slow many times.. Slow response or no response at all in FileBrowser. I installed Chromium Webbrowser from the WeTab Market. Now when I try to send a webpage in the regular built-in webbrowser it starts Chromium Webbrowser and loads the website www.claws-email.org in Chromium Webbrowser. Before I installed Chromium Webbrowser, it would start the Email-application. I have removed the Chromium Webbrowser -widget using "Configure", but the problem remains that is starts Chromium Webbrowser when I try to send a webpage in the regular built-in webbrowser. Does this mean that is does not really remove the application, but just the shortcut to that application? I cannot use my Gmail-account in the regulare email-client (Claws Mail). This is because Gmail only accepts SSL-connections these days. It is not possible to configure SSL-connections in this version of Claws Mail. How do I know if there are new updates for the WeTab? Does it check everytime I turn it on? Or when I reboot? Or is there a manual way to update? There is no simple way to escape from fullscreen in Adobe Reader. Does anyone know how I can change the keyboard-layout from QWERTZ to QWERTY ? I'm sure this list will grow over time and I hope that the problems and bugs will be fixed very soon.

Wow, you have a lot of problems with your device. First thing, AndroidPIT is an Android community, and as the WeTab is currently only running Meego, there won't be many people that can help. Luckily, we happen to have the WeTab in the office, so I can take a look in the device and try to help you. Regading the SIM card, I have the same problem, as I also use a T-Mobile pre-paid SIM card As for changing the QWERTZ to QWERTY, I was not able to find a way to change the layout. I also suffer from the occasional deletion of my network information on the WeTab for my Wi-Fi network. With a ~20 letter passkey, it gets VERY annoying to have to re-input the passkey once a day (or more than once, really.) The device is also slow, unresponsive at times, and some apps do not seem to function at all. Have you managed to change the language from German into English? I have tried like 5 times (with reboot), but it never goes to English. Luckily, I understand enough German to use it easily. Exiting from some apps is a genuine pain when there is no sidebar to click on, and all you can do is tilt the device like crazy, hoping that changing the orientation will bring a menu to exit the app. This device is very buggy, but from what I have heard, the device should be getting Android soon, which should solve most, if not all of your problems. I believe that the underlying cause of the device's problems is the Meego OS, and that once Android is installed, the experience will be much better.

Glad to hear you were able to return the product for full price. I will try to remember to post back in here once the Android update for the device rolls out or once the device performs better with a different update.

i can answer your update problem, you can do this by clicking the Info tab in the right and from the windows click open settings button, where you can see category, (General, connections and applications) by default General category selected if not press it and you will see (Device info, date and time, language, rotation,HDMI, update, reset account, and legal). with device info, you can see the software version and last update.

Sandor Major My problem with WeTab is that I can't access root user in the console. Other problem is that I can't use Android apps on it Can you help me with this? Thanks! From what I understand, Android is coming to the device in an update, and will run in some windowed mode, not as a fully integrated Android OS.

if you still facing the problems i suggest you contact 4tiitoo, so they can help you to restore the system best regards The first thing I did was plugging in the AC-adapter.. My problems started the moment I bought the WeTab. Because back then, I didn't know that I would be returning it almost 2 weeks later.. I wanted to use gmail in the email-application, as I mentioned earlier in this thread.. I do not want to use it in a webbrowser. My device was very buggy. That's 4tiitoo's problem now because I returned my device and got my money back, as I mentioned earlier in this thread. Thanks anyway..

You should of tried using IMAP instead of POP. I managed to get my hands on a wetab here in California, and I do admit it has a few small issues, but these are bugs that can be fixed over time. I have installed firefox version 3 and beta version 4 at the same time ( I use the FireFTP add-on occasionally) , I also installed thunderbird, and sunbird. Another recommendation I have is to install the chrometouch extension for google chrome for touch screen capability ( do not use the multitouch, it uses to many resources). The apple blue-tooth keyboard also works great with the wetab. I did have a problem with changing adobe pdf reader to English, but if you open the English version on another system you can map out how to change the language preference before trying it on the wetab. All and all this OS is not perfect YET, but it is definitely worth putting up with the minor issue considering what it can already do, and the huge potential for future development.

I would say it has more than a few problems. If you liked the device and managed to get it working fairly quickly and easily, I congratulate you on your accomplishment. I made a video (in 2 parts) showing my experience with the WeTab after using it for a bit. I found the MeeGo software to be horrible in most cases, or at least how it was implemented onto the device. To each his own.

hashem Ahmed Did you download the root program from the market, you will find it under tools category Yes but can't get root access. The solution was switching to recovery mode (Info / Open Settings / General / Reset Account / Start Recovery Mode) But an other problem is that I can't connect to GPS. The only software as I know for this is Bing Maps by clicking on the "where am I" button but it's always saying: A connection to a GPS satellite could not be established. Please try again later.

I also have bought the device from the macro in the netherlands. I had issues because the device was in german and hard to find to change the language settings, but i managed to change this.
I have, however, some issues regarding exhange email connectivity (with exchange 2010) which is apparantly not supported and network browser which doesn't show any windows servers or network shares in the network. (It doesn't show anything at all)
I hope that anyone knows how to fix this ??

I believe the primary OS on WeTab is MeeGo but it can also run Google Android as a virtual machine within MeeGo. In other words, you can also run Linux or Android apps on the tablet. You also might have problems purchasing apps through Android Market on the device, which might be impossible. Are you looking for only MeeGo tablets or open to other suggestions?
