Help with my project

Hi,
I am in my final year at university studying computer forensics and I want to create a program (using java) that investigates the android operating system. I was wondering is it possible to create an app or program to extract the system files to investigate on the program I create on the computer? The idea is to not to alter the files so that they can be used as evidence.

Also, does anyone know where files such as history/messages/bookmarks/phonebook etc. are kept?

I'm assuming you have an Android phone to go along with this project, right? Anyways, you should probably start by checking out Android Developers and looking through their materials to get a grasp on where to go from here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
