What do you mean with "Gallant?" The Android 2.2 update for the Galaxy S is coming and should be arriving on your phone soon, possibly by the end of the month. Manufacturers, from what I understand, try to make every feature that comes with a new Android release function on their phones to the best of their ability. Once they have got a new Android version working, it gets wither passed on to the carriers, or onto the phones themselves. Some carriers have branded handsets and with those handsets, they like to add their own apps onto Android updates. Some carriers like to remove features that come with the Android updates (for instance tethering and hotspot ability). Those changes take awhile to make sure that everything still works, and even then, bugs can still exist.
Head over here and check out my post about rooting. As for unlocking, that basically means altering your phone to work with a cellular provider other than the one who sold you your phone. Some companies lock their handsets, making it hard to use with other providers. Yours isn't necessarily locked, but it may be.

Its mostly android. Samsung was smart this time around. They learned from the "Behold" incident when they integrated their stuff too tightly and couldn't move it to the next android version. They even have MODs that have removed TouchWiz (the samsung side) completely.
I love my Vibrant. I'm currently using the JK6(unreleased leak) stock (rooted) Froyo release. Its awesome and GPS finally works! I'm waiting for TeamWhiskey to release their Obsidian version of JK6 as I kinda like TouchWiz. Most others are removing TouchWiz. Just check out XDA-developers.com and teamwhiskey.com |

If it is any help to know, the Samsung Epic 4G (member of the Galaxy S family) received Android 2.2 a few days ago. Hopefully the other variants will be seeing Android 2.2 very soon as well.

i have jst read reviews abt newly launched samsung galaxy s2 as a successor of galaxy legacy and its the best galaxy android available in the android market 2day even better than iphone with much advanced features and according to me( as per its specs described on various sites) it will be more beneficial to an individual having requirements such as browsing, gaming, watching videos and video recording. Its predecessor galaxy s was a sort of ferrari but this new version to me is like ferrari with thrust..

Like Samsung Galaxy S2 I want to get one but think some people gave negative reviews for it like,
- Lack of Base comparing to the SGS I I have to say the speakers on SGS II imho is not better than SGS I. Maybe there was a bit of compromise in the design? On the original SGS you couldn't listen to it whilst on the table or sofa. Now on the SGS II there is a massive gap between the outer chasis and the internal speaker inside so you can listen to music perfectly without any muffling when laid on a surface. However there seems to be a real lack of base comparing with the SGS I. |

When I was confused to buy or not Samsung galaxy s2 because of its poor battery life my friend suggest to buy it. Actually my friend has Samsung Galaxy S2 and he just find new solution for upgrade battery life, Initialy when he upgraded from Froyo 2.2.1 to Gingerbread my battery life was very poor, but he rebooted phone into recovery mode, (volume up, home key, and power at same time) then he selected wipe cache partion , then done a factory reset for good measure, battery life now as good as Froyo was. Now waiting for my new samsung galaxy s2.
