HTC DESIRE - STARTING TO PREFORM NO SO GOOD..!!!!!!

Have had my HTC Desire for a good while now, and although i still love it, i also hate it now too.....its a love and hate story... I clearly see they still have quite a lot of work and problems to fix before it is ready to compete with the likes of the mighty IPHONE....( i know i know, you dont want to hear that, but the truth hurts sometime)......

Its Just like the crashy PC Vs the stable MAC arguement....my desire is starting to force close left right and center, and why they are still making 98% of apps sit on my phone instead of installing straight to the SD card is beyond me, for this only allows you to keep a minimum amount of apps on your phone at any one time before your phone tells you to start deleting stuff and blocks you from opening anything at all (i.e picture gallery videos txt messages etc etc) and those just metioned are on my SD card so why does it block me from accesing those files it makes no HTC SENCE ( excuse the pun)...this i find RIDICULOUS AND SO ANNOYING......

I have mentioned the battery life and over heating problems in older post so wont eat that stale bread again but it's all starting to add up to an unhappy user and wanting something better.samsung gallery maybe....HTC Desire & Andriod is a good starting point for the new user but the more technical and demanding i get the more i find that the Andriod market still has a real distance between it and apples vast army of apps and usability services, and all now the Andriod gaming experience is pants compered to the likes of the iphone gaming world which is just rubbing salt onto an ever growing wound.....well thats my 2minutes of ranting whats your opinion.."!!!!!!

I feel your pain regarding the apps2SD card. More developers need to start enabling Apps2SD card in their apps. Have you checked within every single app as to where you want it saved? After the ability came out (with Android 2.2), developers can add the ability to choose where to install the app. However, from what I remember, users have to specifically choose if they want it to install on the SD card. If an app updates with this ability, I believe you have to go into "manage apps/applications" or whatever it is called and specifically look at EVERY app to see if it can be moved to the SD card. Annoying, I know.

Regarding the force closes, how much empty space do you have left on your phone's internal memory? Too many apps/too little open space may be causing the force closes. If that is not the case, you can always do a factory reset and reinstall all your favorite apps. If you do, you will have the chance with every app that has apps2sd card ability, the choice of where to install (SD card or internal memory). That may help alleviate some of your problems.

Regarding Samsung phones and their picture gallery: it sucks, plain and simple. It is great when it works, but after a few weeks or months, your phone will start to create these HUGE gigabyte size files for the media gallery which suck up all internal storage space. I believe this is an issue with all Galaxy S phones and it can be taken care of easily on a regular basis, but it will continue to happen until Samsung releases a fix for it. I am hoping that the Smasung NExus S will not have this problem, as it will be running stock Android, and not Samsung's crappy additions to the ROM.

Hey Douglas, I am aware of some apps having install to SD compatibility but way to little considering.....I do use the said application checking method you explained and even have the dedicated App2 SD...Sad to say but i hope My phone not having enough internal memory space is the problem for all my apps force closing every minute, because it is full up with Apps that I use on a daily basis and can not port them to my SD card where i have tons of space..my phone is constantly telling me to delete something as i am running low on space and then wont let me view a picture or even a text message until i have found some way of freeing up space for the main phone to funcition, it is this that baffles me the most, and hope it can be sorted by a software upgrade of some sort and not me having to try another brand of phone......

Regarding the Samsung gallery comment , I'm sorry I made a typo and ment to say Samsung Galaxy, not meaning any one function on the phone but the whole phone in general...I said that as my friend has just bought a Samsung and i'm affraid he might come gloating...but as i am typing this Dolphin have just issued a brand new upgrade for the Dolphin Browser HD where they claim they have implemented the option of saving all my cache files to the phone or to SD card while boasting more and better gesture options, installing it right now so i'll keep you posted peoples.1

Yeah, I would definitely suggest removing some apps that you don't use often , as that will definitely help stop all the lagginess and force closes etc. that you keep having.

The Galaxy S is nice because of all the internal space. The one I was using had 8GB internal storage, and even though all of it wasn't available for apps storage, there was still a bunch of space to install apps on. I'm eager to hear how the Dolphin Browser update works for you. Just so you know, I think some phones need 25MB of free internal space or more. My G1 thankfully only needs ~10MB of free internal storage.
