This isn't really a fix. many people have complained about this "fix"
It just resets the GPS settings to default settings. Worked for very few people. GPS in JK6 Froyo ROM (leaked), if you're using a vibrant, works great! Best my Vibrant has ever ran on stock! XDA even has a new sXe MOD and works really well!

It's not good fix for my SGS. I use my "old" external PENTAGRAM GPS / used before with my Nokia E51/.It works perfect via bluetooth connection.Internal GPS isn't good in SGS, and we do nothing with this.I use my external GPS with program installed on phone called "Bluetooth GPS Provider" - from market. It's free and super. My connection is stable like a rock!!! I use Copilot Live 8.No more problems with GPS

This method, as you mentioned, brings them back to stock GPS settings, which may make things work better, and allow other "fixes" to work properly.
