It is definitely a big change from the 24 hour period we had before. Maybe 30 minutes would be a better idea. Lots of people are saying that they don't even have enough time to download and install the app before their time is up.
Some people have been saying that the mere fact we have a refund time with Android is a privilege (iOS doens't), but one has to remember that when no one is checking these apps before they are placed on the market, some sort of system to get a refund is necessary. I think that 30 minutes would be a good compromise.

30 minutes is not enough either.
I liked 24 hours because it gave you enough time to try the app without being under time pressure. When I buy an app but then minutes later my boy starts crying and wants the dippers changed how do you expect me to evaluate within 15 or 30 minutes? As a root user I always have the possibility to copy the app before the time is up but why make it so complicated for the ones paying again? |

There was an increasing concern that the paid games/apps which developers were making could be played through completely due to the time limit accounting for a whole day. Then the customer could simply ask for a refund after playing through the game. 30 minutes is by no means perfect for the consumer, but it also isn't perfect for the developer. Also, the fact that rooted users, as you said, can simply take the app and then refund the purchase price is not acceptable from a developer standpoint. Any change which makes that less likely to occur will appeal to many developers.

I think 30 mins is too short to really evaluate an app too. If they want to pirate your app they can do it in 30 mins.

Me too, and I find that lame. Even with a time limit of 1 or 2 minutes, it would likely still be possible.

Yeah, I don't think a time limit will help piracy at all. It may help with some people who play the games for a day and then refund them. But for the average user 15 mins is gonna hurt both developers and users I think. |

I got burned on an app not knowing the new 15 min time limit. As for how long... I think 60 min would work best.

Most apps I buy are not games but something you would need from time to time over a much lager period of time. Often it takes some time to evaluate if the app does what you want it to do. 2. If it is possible to play a game through in 1 day then maybe that game is not worth allot. |

I will be slot less likely to try an app now that there is only a 15min test time. Yesterday I downloaded an app to try.. and couldn't install it within the time limit.. hope app developers also make free versions.

There are a lot of indie companies that are saying this is ridiculous and offering longer refund periods.
The best I have seen is the makers of Star Traders RPG (search for RPG on the android market, its #1, http://www.corytrese.com/games/startraders/). These guys are indie devs who offer a 48 hour refund period. |

as an app tester here at AndroidPIT, I find the 15 min time limit a huge time constraint.
How can I evaluate an app and test in just 15 minutes? It's impossible! With the old 24 hour limit, I had enough time to try out apps and get a good idea of whether they were worth my time. Now it's easier to get caught on a scam. What if you purchase an app and it glitches and doesn't work on your phone? 15 minutes is cutting it way too close. |

Do you know how they are able to do this? As a developer, I don't think you can change the refund period in the Google market. You can issue a refund later with your Google checkout account; but how would you know if they uninstalled the app? Or is the company your talking about using a different market?

Hi,
I am a keyboard developer, and the change of the refund period forced me to redesign the install of my app. If you have ever changed the keyboard on Android, you know you will never do it without following some instructions. By the time you have it up and running that 15 minuets has gone. We had a request from Orange last year to simplify and speed up the install for their market. Now after download, you only have to run our short-cut icon and click one button and your done. This at least gives everyone a chance to have a play with the keyboard within the 15 minuets. On the upside, we have noticed an overall increase in the numbers of people actually keeping the keyboard, this is because most people just will not follow instructions to install things and would just give up after a while and un-install. I agree with most people here that an hour would be good, 15 mins a bit silly. And as someone is bound to ask, my keyboard app is called the Crocodile Keyboard. |

I'm interested why this time is not defined by developer itself? For games is 24 hours too much because user can sometimes play whole game after that time, but for some games, you do not have enough time to download additional data. I'm developing mapping software so I'll like to be able to set refund period to for example few hours (3-4). It allow users to check if app works correctly and if they really want to use it. Grr 15 minutes is almost worst then nothing.
EDIT: what is refund period here on AndroidPIT? |

Yeah, it would be nice if the developers themselves could define the refund period.
At AndroidPIT the refund period is still 24 hours, which I think is great. |

It is quite difficult to reach good sells at market, with longer refund period revenues could drop (10/20%) what is probably the reason.

Before buying a app,go through a review of that app.
Then buy it,if you like it. |
