HTC Thunderbolt — New to Thunderbolt and I have a few questions..

My girlfriend recently purchased a Thunderbolt (I'm a rooted Eris owner) and I had a few questions about it.

Where exactly is the phone in terms of updates and current software? A check for updates reveals "no new updates," but which ones should we accept or decline in the future?
