HTC Evo 4G — Rooting question

I'd really like to remove a bunch of the pre-installed apps on my Evo 3D, but I'm pretty happy with the stock Android experience and have no interest in flashing custom ROMs.

Can I root my device to get full access to the folder without having to flash an entire new ROM so I can uninstall these apps?
