Rooting the HTC Detail?

I just got an HTC Detail and I am debating whether to root. I've read that this phone is basically the same thing as the HTC Evo Shift 4G, but currently I can find nothing specifically about rooting this device. Should I assume that anything about rooting the shift 4g applies?

Hi Jack!

Yes, the HTC Shift 4G and the HTC Detail should be root-able in the same way. I couldn't find anything specific about how to root the Detail.

As far as "to root or not to root," what are you trying to accomplish by rooting the device, exactly?

As far as reason for rooting, I am a programmer who hasn't had a smart phone/droid before, and I got one to do mobile development, and I assume I will need to root for a lot of this.

I also can't find anything about the HTC Detail so I can't give you direct advice. There were some mentions on other forums that it was similar but not one mentioned anything regarding complete instructions. I'D check out our developers forum. They may have more advice for you there.
