Can Android run more then five homescreens?

The title says it all can Android support more then 5 homescreens and if so how can I set this up. I mean it should be pretty easy right? They're just like virtual destops on my note book I think so I should just be able to set a new one up like a tab, am I right?

Actually HTC has 7 Homescreens.
But as far as I know it's limited (to 7 at htc, 5 on nexus phones?)

The number of homescreen is normally preset but if you run a different launcher you can set the number of screens you have.
