wifi tethering phone to tablet

I'm sure its been discussed before but any help would be appreciated. I have a Droid x and have never used the wifi tethering before. I just purchased an HTC flyer tablet which is wifi only and I'm wondering if its possible to use my dx as a hotspot for my flyer? Fyi, my phone is not rooted

anybody please?

Noticed it somewhere that if you want to use your phone as a hotspot, you have to root your phone and run a customer ROM.
