Thats correct. Nova launcher is unfortunately only for ICS. Its a DAMN good launcher though.

I think then it was a bad idea to try in on my note with android gingerbread   Do you think it will work if theres an update to ICS?

Sorry. I didn't realise that Nova launcher was ICS only
 but there is an ICS update for the Note coming soon so it should work after that!
