Samsung Galaxy S — White star with red dot icon

In the last couple of days I have started getting a white star icon with a red dot in the middle in the pull down at the top of the screen where you see e-mail, messages, etc.
When I pull down the screen it says: "ALERT: AT&T User" in the title and then below that it reads: "You have (1) iPad unclaimed, Claim No...." I can't read any more and it shows the time I received the message beside it. I have received this message several times and have just cleared the list to get rid of it but it keeps coming back.
Does anyone know what this is? I don't own an iPad or i anything. I don't want to open it because I suspect it is spam or possibly even a virus. I have never seen that icon before and don't know what it represents.
