problem with email deleting immediately after reading

I have a Samsung Galaxy 3 and whenever I read an email, it deletes from the phone and laptop. I know t here is a setting to change this but don't know how to do it.

I figured it out. The email was set up as a "pop" "gmail" account originally instead of one or the other so it is working now.

I have tried what you detail but their isn't this option on the Galaxy or in any other place as far as I can tell. Do you know how to solve on an Galaxy s3?
The problem is driving me mad!
