Can Android do better for making money than iOS?

Critics are always saying that you can’t make REAL money from advertising with Android apps and that iOS is a better market for making money. But I think that depends on your app and understanding the two markets and the ad networks out there. Any opinions on this?

Android is shaping up to be the big area of opportunity in mobile for 2013. The platform is really growing all the time and the openness of the ecosystem is creating lots of new ways to make money. Whereas iOS/ iPhone seems to be more about the major publishers these days there still seems to be a ‘wild west’ feel to Android where it’s possible for independent developers and publishers to make serious revenues. In terms of mobile ad networks... again, I think the momentum goes to Android. I know a lot of attention goes to the #1 Android ad network - Admob - but I tend to look just over Admob's shoulder at who is in #2 - Airpush. I use Airpush and tell you from experience that, which I could recommend some improvements, for the most part, Airpush's resources (Push ads, Icon Ads, SmartWall) lead the industry and have helped me make more money than other ad networks I've used. The point, however, isn't about Airpush or any other ad network 0 it's about Android. Android developers and mobile advertisers are going to significantly outperform their iOS counterparts in the coming years. I'm banking on that.

I think Android is better because more people use the platform.

Currently, or at least as of the end of 2012 Apple was earning developers ~4x more per app than Android. that said, the growth numbers point to Android coming out way ahead. Not only is Android leading iOS for phone and tablet market share, Android app revenues are growing 5x faster than iOS. Also, the Android market imposes less restrictions on developers.

I agree with you guys. and I think android will surpass iOS one day in the near future. As now you see android's market share is already leading over iOS. and it's still growing faster which means that android is a huge promising market not only for big developers but also for uncountable small indie developers And another reason why I believe android will win is that one most important way for mobile apps to make money is through mobile ads network, and this applies to both iOS and android. So the subscribers' market share will be a very important factor. . I work for an mobile game company, our android games are already making money by being publishers on some ads networks like appflood, admob.

Many people uses Android than iOS so I think the Android is much better in making money.

For big publishers iOS is better than the Android but for the smaller the opposite is the truth.

Even though iOS still earns more revenue on average, there is definitely a potential for Android app revenues to go up. I think part of the reason is that iOS users are more accustomed to paying for content, whereas Android has had a slower time putting up a paywall given it's open source nature. All trends point to Android making a lot more money in the future, as Android users are going to far exceed iOS, if the trend continues.
