Easter is just around the corner and it's time for all of use to take a couple of day off to relax. What could be a better way to chill out than sitting on your couch playing a good food-related game?
So maybe the game's story isn't the most appetizing, some would even call it flat out disgusting. After all BoboBua is a game about a swallowed meatball fending off incoming food with the help of a noodle inside a human being's digestive system...yum!The picture displayed under "Story" basically gives it all away (look at the 1st screenshot).
Find out whether the game is really as weird as it sounds in our test report below!
First off, the story line isn't a joke. There really is a noodle stretched out inside a human's stomach acting as a slingshot. Your aim is to shoot down incoming blocks (i.e. food) as quickly as possible.
Bobo, our beloved projectile, increases in size and power the more blocks of food he hits (eats). All that extra weight does, however, weigh him down considerably.
When Bobo hits a piece of food, it immediately disappears averting any possible danger . The game ends if a block of food manages to pierce through the noodle.
So all you guys out there - keep your eyes on the noodle! (why does that somehow sound so wrong?)
Bottom Line:
At first I found the idea behind the game to be somewhat funny. I mean, I've definately never seen anything like it before. BoboBua is a mix between Flipper and your old-school shoot 'em up arcade game.
The game doesn't, however, deserve all those raving reviews from the Market. The game's idea just isn't that interesting (WARNING: The game is anything but easy to play!). They could have made something much better out of this.
There aren't any levels, for example. The game just keeps on going and going without any end in sight. That becomes really frustrating, really fast.
Plus, it's a shame there aren't any super powers. I never really got what I could do with all the power and size I gain throughout the game.
Therefore I can only rate this game with three stars. What a shame.
The graphics seem well-done and professional at first glance. But then again, I got the impression there was very little effort and love put into this game. I mean, what the hell are these things I'm shooting down? Ice cubes? Rocks? Tomatoes? I know it may sound petty, but this kind of thing really bothers me.
The controls seem easy enough at first. Just pulling back Bobo like slingshot and - bam - your shooting down stuff left and right. During the test it became, however, apparent that the controls were way to difficult to manage.
Bottom Line:
It seems that first impressions can be extremely deceiving...I thought I had come across a 5 star worthy game, but in the end I found it to be very average. A lot more work needs to be done on this one. 3 stars is all I can give it.
Am I being too harsh here? What do you think?
The game had trouble performing well on the Samsung Galaxy Spica. Definately no fun when that happens.
At least the game never crashed.
BoboBua Lite is free to download from the Market. The full-version can also be downloaded at a price of $2.99.
