Sitting back puffing on a cigar, you find yourself in a room covered by a thick cloud of smoke. You can see the fear in the eyes of the opponent sitting across the table from you. He’s just placed his chips in the middle of the table hoping that you don’t have a better hand. A small peak at your cards gives you the confidence to say, “I call”.
This is what most people imagine a poker scene to be like. Red Poker Club might not offer you the drama of a real poker showdown, but it’s still a fun little Android poker game for your spare time.
Fun or flop? Find out the answer in our test report.
Red Poker Club makes a great first impression. To get started, you’ll first have to quickly register on the app. You’ll need to provide a username, password, country, and email address. After registration, you receive 5000 chips and you can select a user picture from a list of comic characters. I don’t want to waste too much time here explaining the rules of poker. Generally speaking, the objective while playing the Texas hold’em variation of poker is to have the highest possible hand. Every player receives two so-called face cards while a set of five community cards is laid out for every respective round. The player with the best combination of face and community cards is declared the winner.
More information, including a how-to video, is available at the Red Poker Club website:

You can also find hundreds of tips, explanations, and tricks for Texas Hold’em online.
If you’re familiar with the rules and intricacies of the game, sit yourself down at the table! The tables are organized into different categories according to blinds and buying price. Since you begin the game with 5000 chips, you’ll probably start off at the “cheaper” tables. If you don’t want to look for a tableyourself, you can use the “Find a Seat” function, which randomly finds you a spot at a table you can afford.
Each table has a maximum of 5 players.
Every player has 15 seconds to make his or her move in order to prevent players from waiting around.
As soon as you win some more cash, you can move on over to more advanced tables and play for more chips.
The individual players can be identified by the number of little stars next to their picture. With the integrated chat system, you can communicate with your opponents about your previous hand or anything that pops into your mind. Unfortunately, the chat feature lacks a scroll function, which makes it impossible to look through past messages. There’s also a small gag built-in to the game. You can order drinks or food for your fellow players. You can buy sushi, broccoli, etc. for just a couple of chips and send it across the table to anyone you’d like. Most players are thankful for such a gesture and it could even be the start of a friendship.
That’s exactly what the developers had in mind with the friends list feature. The list lets you know which of your friends are currently online so that you can join their tables.
In the settings, you can change your user picture or toggle the sound and vibration on/off.
Otherwise, you can find additional information in the main menu about the Texas hold’em, the rankings, and the developers.
I found most of the tables to be pretty full and there were really a lot of players online. Never did I have to sit by myself at a table.
Unfortunately, I’ve lost all of my virtual chips already and I’m looking for a way to replenish my stock. I didn’t find any information on how to acquire new playing chips. If you happen to have a tip for me, please leave a comment below.
Bottom Line:
As long as you have enough chips, Red Poker Club can actually be a lot of fun. It’s also nice to be able to communicate with real people while playing. Both beginners and advanced players will have fun with this app. Good luck at the tables and let the games begin!
The game’s set-up is very pleasant to the eye. You can also tell that the graphics were done with a lot of care and thought. Playing against real players with profile pictures creates a really nice game atmosphere. A couple additional options are needed to make the user profile even more personalized. Seeing the same profile pictures over and over again makes the game less attractive. The controls are very easy and intuitive. All the buttons are easy to reach and self-explanatory. In order to speed up your game, you can select your actions while waiting for your turn (except raising).
I had some problems with raising because it wasn’t easy to select the right amount to raise. Getting the hang of it requires a little bit of extra practice.
Finally, the app lacks a scroll list in the chat as well as a player search function (if you happen to be looking for a player not on your friends list).
The app’s speed is impressive. It didn’t even lag on the G1. The only long wait you experience is when selecting a new table or waiting for your opponents to make their moves. The game can be even be played with a 2G internet connection. Red Poker Club didn’t force close or have any other performance problems during our test.
Brilliant!
Red Poker Club is available to download for free from the Android Market.
There are no ads.
Since I couldn’t find a way to buy new chips, I assume that there aren’t any hidden costs.
