Summary

Have Flickr and Photobucket become household names for you? If so, you must be a real photo community expert. PicPush is connected to quite a few different photo communities. Using its connections in the photo sharing world, this app can really help you out.
PicPush provides Facebook, Flickr and Photobucket (just to name a few) with the latest pictures from your Android phone. Don’t worry about having to manually upload pictures any longer – PicPush takes full responsibility for all your picture uploading needs. Read on about the app’s extra features in our test.

Features & Use

Section rating:

Uploading pictures to photo communities or social networking sites isn’t actually as easy as it seems at first glance. You’ve got to select your pictures, log in to Facebook, open your Flickr account and maybe even try to load them all onto Picasa to share. Seem complicated? Most definitely! PicPush can automatically publish your snapshots online without any extra work. Obviously, you have to configure your app before you can start using it. PicPush is best suited for people that are registered in the following communities:

  • Picasa
  • facebook
  • flickr
  • Gallery
  • photobucket
  • shutterfly
  • SmugMug

The cool thing about PicPush is that it doesn’t simply upload random pictures, but lets you select which pictures and/or folders should by synchronized with every photo service. This feature is called Auto Scanner and works like a charm. If you select only one folder to be synchronized, all pictures that get put in that folder are automatically uploaded to the respective community. Auto Scanner also detects whether there are any new pictures since the last synchronization. The whole shebang works perfectly with pictures as well as videos. The Auto Scanner feature is located in your preferences tab. Here you’ll find an option that lets you delay uploading for a certain time. This can be useful if you have snapped quite a few pictures, but would only like to upload one of them or sort them all out before hand.

When connecting PicPush to Facebook, for example, you are redirected to the Facebook page by the app. Here you have to enter in your entire log in information. In the end, you receive a one-time code that you have to use with PicPush. This way PicPush is always connected to your Facebook without saving any of your Facebook login information.

Synchronization with Picasa is a bit easier. All you have to do is log into your Picasa account. Once you’ve done that, PicPush automatically remembers that information and can initiate the upload process.

When setting up your different accounts, you can select whether you’d like to upload your pictures to a certain folder or create a new one for your PicPush Uploads.

Our test picture was uploaded to the correct folder without any problem with both Picasa and Facebook.

Your accounts tab gives you a nice overview of your accounts. With a tap on the green icon next to the community name, you can disable the uploading feature.
In options, you can determine which uploaded pictures should be made public or remain private.

Bottom Line:
PicPush makes managing your pictures way easier. To fully appreciate this app, you’ve really got to be a photo-sharing buff. For the occasional upload this app may be a tad to complicated to use.

Turn off: Once a picture is in the process of being uploaded, the upload cannot be canceled. I accidentally placed the wrong picture in the upload folder and had to wait for the upload to be completed before I could delete it.

Another thing that bothered me a bit is that you cannot upload any picture from a file manager. The feature just simply isn’t there. You can only use pictures that you’ve placed in the sync folder. What a disappointment!

Depending on the picture size, I recommend you use a fast data connection or Wi-Fi when uploading your photos.

Screen & Controls

Section rating:

PicPush’s design is very well-structured and self-explanatory. Nothing is placed out of order. Even the somewhat complicated log in process with Facebook is made easy with the help of suggestion bubbles.

The header upload is really cool, especially when your pictures are being uploaded. You can scroll through a 3D gallery and receive additional information for every picture with just a single tap.

Speed & Stability

Section rating:

PicPush ran smoothly and reliably during our test. The upload proccess can take a bit of time depending on the data connection.

Price/Performance Ratio

Section rating:

The initial download of PicPush is free of charge. You can try out the full app for 30 days. To continue using PicPush after that time, you'll need to download a PicPush licence for $4.99 (download here).

Gallery3 support doesn't work Claims to have support for Gallery3 - logging in results in it either complaining that the gallery installation doesn't exist, or spinning forever and never connecting.

It misses some uploads Sometimes if connection breaks or there is no connection picpush misses uploads. Kind of annoying.

Mysterious App, works Great Review is being written only in regards to combination of Galaxys II and a Flickr account. It uploads content seamlessly. Its really brilliant at doing its job without making a noise but all these complaints by the other reviewers makes me feel insecure. Needs improvement on the following: -Needs to show up a notification as I have to always check my flickr account to see if the photos are up to date. -Other reviews suggest that it forgets what it has uploaded if it is restarted, hopefully this wont happen as it will totally mess things up. -Does not upload videos, an option to convert videos and upload them would be a huge plus. -Interface needs a face lift and more detail, many more options can be added.

Love it! My Droid deleted all 3000 of my pics during the last update. I'll never have to worry about losing a pic again thanks to PicPush!!!

Great. Automatic uploads to my Flickr. One star reserved for a notification system and addition of video upload to Vimeo.

Works but locks up phone Uses majority of resources for extended periods which renders phone inoperable. Have Google+ instant upload now. Uninstalled Picpush.

Does not support video. Wrong design for upload. Developer gave cover flow instead of list view. We are not using this for browsing pics.
Dave, Jul 16, 2011
Frequently uploads only part of a picture to Picasa. Google+ instant upload does exactly what I need, perfectly.

Not sure it was working. Google plus now does same thing. Nagware now. Uninstall.

Slooowwwwwwwwww

Cannot get this to work

Great, needs a few tweaks I love this app, I love that when I click "find new" it leaves out images I've previously removed; however, this function still needs work. First off, it only works like this per session, meaning that after the app is closed, it finds all the images again, and it only works if you are selecting the same folders as previous. This is really annoying as all the pictures on my device are uploaded, just not all by this app. Also the uploads tab needs some sort of progress indicator.

Stopped uploading pictures automatically It doesn't upload pictures automatically anymore. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but no luck. Even to manually upload, I have refresh many times before it finds new pictures. Need to update the app.
