Features & Use
Playtomo is basically a game collection for your Android phone. You can select games from different categories within playtomo, which are then loaded from the Internet. If you create an account, you can see which of your friends with accounts are currently online. You can then share your scores with others and see how your performance is doing. You are also free to log in directly through your Facebook account.
The games available are nice little time-killing games that have some neat graphics. According to the market description, a new game is added to playtomo every single month. The selection is already pretty impressive.
Screen & Controls
On the main menu screen you’ll notice the biggest problem with playtomo: the app is ad-based. The ads look decidedly crappy in contrast to the actual app, which is actually well-designed. Right under the ad banner you’ll find a small button to end playtomo on the left as well as an update button on your right. Below that you can see all the games you’ve played so far for quick and easy start-up. When you click on one of them, the following menu appears:
- Start Game
- Friends Ranking
- World Ranking
Here you have direct access to your high scores
News messages are displayed below the game icons. They can contain information about newly released games or your latest activity (e.g. You just set a new best score…).
At the bottom you can navigate with the help of four buttons:
- Home
- Games
- Friends
- Invite
Games are divided into:
- Most popular
- Newest
- Puzzle
- Action
- Brain
- Reflection
There are already quite a few games to choose from in each respective category. The games may appear a bit childish at first sight, but are actually often quite challenging, so don’t be too quick to judge.
Once you’ve selected a game, you start playing by pressing “play” or take a look at some screenshots before hand. Before starting a game, you are presented with a set of really informative game instructions, which you can always skip through. While playing you can toggle the sound on or off using a button on the bottom left of your screen. Game music is turned off by default, which is nice since it’s repetitive and the same for every single game. You can access the menu at the bottom right. Here you have the following options:
- Resume Game
- Exit to main menu
- Ranking
- Send this game
- Report problems
- Help
Via “Friends” on the main screen you can access your profile if you’ve made one or have one a Facebook account. Here you can take a look at your high scores and write a status message. You can also add friends by searching through the playtomo database.
Using the “Invite” button you can send an email or text message to your friends inviting them to join playtomo.
Bottom Line:
Playtomo offers entertaining games absolutely free of charge. The games and the app itself have a really well-designed look and feel. Unfortunately, the ad banners ruin and distort the entire picture significantly. If you factor in the repetitive background music, three stars are the limit for this app.

Are the ads on the menu screen or the actual gameplay screen as well. I didn't see any ads on the game screen from the screenshots you posted. If not, do the ads actually lower the quality of the games at all?
