Summary

In this game, the objective is to breed, care for, and sell fish. Have a read-through; hopefully you will like it just as much as I do, provided, of course, that you are a fan of this type of game.

Today’s test review was written by Paulina Gegenheimer, a high school student.

Features & Use

Section rating:

The goal of the game is to breed as many fish as possible, to care for them from the time that they are eggs until they are fully formed fish (now there’s a tongue twister!), and, once they’re grown, to sell them in order to buy new material and new levels. I really enjoy playing Fish Farmer Lite, but I only play it when I know that I’ve got a bit of time to spare, as it always takes some time until one has accumulated enough money to go on to the next level.

Screen & Controls

Section rating:

After starting the app you’ll reach the main menu. From there you can start a new game, read through the gameplay instructions, inspect your current score, and download the full version.

The background is black, decorated with multicolored fish. If you choose to start the game straight away you can select the level, though only the first level is accessible at the beginning.

You will then find yourself in an apartment in the middle of which there are two large fish tanks. In the beginning the tanks are empty. There’s a white circle with “Red Egg” written beneath just under it in the left corner of the screen; touch this circle and then pull our finger over to one of the tanks. Repeat this until all the eggs have been brought over to the water.

The fish hatch by themselves, though you can help them by tapping on the ice. Once all the fish have hatched click on the Change button beneath the white circle; this will allow you to collect the food from another menu. You’ll also find Tankwash and Cashier under the same menu. As the name suggests, Tankwash lets you give the tank a good scrub, as it gets increasingly filthy with time. Sell your fish by clicking on Cashier and grabbing the fish with the tip of your finger and dragging them over to the white area.

If you need to get back to the main menu, read through the instructions, or buy new supplies like fish eggs or food during a game, there are several buttons available in the upper half of the screen that will help you do just that. If you’ve done a good job and sold lots of fish you can buy your way up into the next level, as well as access new sorts of supplies.

It does take a bit of time and trial and error in order to figure out how to play this game, but not so long that you feel like you have to read through the instructions… That was my experience, at least.

Speed & Stability

Section rating:

In order to get to the main menu you have to touch the icon; it might take a moment. Apart from that everything is pretty fast. However, while I was testing this app it shut down several times due to a connection error. Aside from this there were no other problems with the app’s stability.

Price/Performance Ratio

Section rating:

You can download Fish Farmer Lite free of charge from the Android Market. The full version is available for €0.99, but only if you’ve already downloaded the Lite version, in which the Buy full version button lets you download the other app.
