12 o’clock, noon, the desert, a hand full of men covered in sand and dust, their skin dry and leathery under the hot sun, a saloon. It goes without saying that they’re drinking whiskey.
The only thing that’s missing now is a game. Monopoly? Unthinkable! Chess? Forget it! The only things these guys need are a sharp knife, the hand of another man, and just a little bit of skills.
By now you must be wondering what the heck this game is all about—read on, you’ll find out!
We all know this game and most likely played it at school one time or another, at least using one’s own hand. Place your hand on a table and spread your fingers, palm facing down. Then, take a pencil – daredevils whip out your knives – and start jabbing between the fingers as fast as you can.
That’s what I Dare You is all about, albeit slightly less dangerous than the original, in-the-flesh game. The hand in question isn’t your own or someone else’s, it’s a virtual onscreen hand. Your finger simulates the pencil/knife.
The goal is to touch the green background as fast as possible, without harming the hand. The more often you succeed, the more a bar in the upper half of the screen will fill up. However, if you miss and hit the hand by mistake you will not only hear a loud “Aah!” cry of pain, the bar will also shorten. The same goes for when you play too slowly.
Bottom line:
A simple but highly effective game which enables you to let off some steam. So before you destroy your phone in a fit of rage, play a round of I Dare You.
Moreover, maybe if you play this game often enough you can improve your skills to such an extent that the next time you get together with Billy the Kid you can really show him who’s boss.
The game’s controls are as easy as simple as the game itself. The only thing you use is your finger; there are no menus and no further settings.
There are several different game variants to choose from:
• Ordered: stab between the fingers in a row
• Split: slightly more complex: start from a certain point and aim between the fingers, work your way back to the original point, then aim for the next space between the fingers, and so on.
• Double Split: this is pretty hard. Start from the first point on the right between the first pair of fingers, then go all the way across to the left. Then aim between the second pair of fingers and go back to the first point on the right, etc.
• Random: just as the name suggests: complete chaos!
Bottom line:
I Dare You is pretty basic, and yet lots of fun. A perfect game to play when you’re on your lunch break or sitting at home on the couch. Sure, there are much more complex games out there, but some of them aren’t half as much fun as this one.
I Dare You didn’t always run smoothly, although this may be due to the phone’s touchscreen. There were also a few crashes, specifically when I set the phone on standby without switching the app off beforehand.
