I can’t believe it! Wow, today’s app is really something! Why? Well, first off the app is really entertaining, at least for the user.
Oh and I should probably mention that fact that the app is a bit – how should I put it – creepy. This app is bound to make the most of anyone’s creativity. Although I found the app really cool, I had no choice but to uninstall it right after the first try. How could a cool app deserve only one star? Find out for yourself by reading on.
Anonymous Email gives away a lot just with its title. Is this app just about sending totally anonymous emails to people? Actually, the app goes even a bit further than that! Not only can you send an anonymous email to someone, but you can insert ANY NAME with using ANYONE’S EMAIL ADRESS. Crazy, right?
That means that you can send funny messages to your best friend using his girlfriend’s email address. Or you can compose a hoax message to your spouse on behalf of your mother-in-law. So far so good! You could even send a message to your ex that looks like it’s coming from their new boyfriend/girlfriend!
And here’s where the app becomes problematic for me on a personal level. At first, I was super excited about the app after it had been recommended to be by a Community member. I spent a whole day spamming my office co-workers with funny emails and had a couple of really good laughs. At the end of the day, though, I started having serious second thoughts about this app. The more you play around with the app, really mean and crazy ideas can start creeping into your head about who to trick next. The problem is that it’s easy to forget that is app is made for fun and not any other mischievous purposes. It’s almost impossible for the recipient of the email to tell that the email is fake. My inbox recognized the email as coming from an actual person I knew. Even a professional would have a really hard time realizing that their part of a hoax, especially if they’re not expecting it.
Bottom Line:
The app can be a lot of fun when it’s used for well-intentioned jokes. Unfortunately, a game can quickly turn ugly or even criminal if it’s misused! The problem is that Anonymous Email let’s people without any technical background easily take advantage of innocent people by spamming them fake emails. There are a lot of really mean and dangerous people out there that could use this app to hurt or seriously offend others. That’s the biggest danger with this app. Therefore I’m not sure if I can rate this app positively, despite the fact that I had fun playing around with it.
I’ve given this app a lot of consideration. On the one hand, the app was a lot of fun. On the other, I need to make sure that people are aware of the dangers of using this app. 3 stars seem like a good compromise. Especially given the fact that the app has a really crappy UI.
Some of you may be curious to know why on earth I would choose to test an app like this. I’m convinced that anyone intending to use this app for criminal purposes can easily find this app on their own. My goal here is just to give a warning to all the other people out there. Knowledge is better than ignorance. Just giving you all a heads-up.
I tested the app on a Samsung Galaxy. It was a real pain to use on this particular device. First off, the app is really ugly looking. The text fields are awkward and hard to use. It’s impossible to view an entire email address because it simply doesn’t fit into the text field. The virtual keyboard covers up the text when you type! You have to close the keyboard in order to be able to see what you’ve written. Another thing that’s really confusing: you receive a send confirmation pop-up after every sent email. The problem is that the pop-up disappears almost instantly! If you don’t pay attention you could end up sending the same message over and over again.
Bottom Line:
The app’s design is tasteless and bland. The unprofessional UI and all display problems create a really sketchy image for this app, which made me uninstall the app as fast as I could.
Runs fast, but the typing is slow.
Way too expensive! The app costs $4.99!!!! Totally ridiculous.
