Turn a desolate stretch of no man’s land into a wonderful neighborhood!
It’s up to you to plan, build and make sure that your neighborhood’s residents are safe and sound.
Take on the challenge of a city planner with Tower Bloxx – the Android SimCity lookalike.
This test report comes from Paulina Gegenheimer.
The aim of Tower Boxx is to transform an abandoned part of the city into a thriving and bustling community that can attract a large population of Toons, as the residents are called in this game.
To start things off, you are given a completed subway station in the middle of nowhere. Your goal is to connect your neighborhood to the rest of the city with a network of streets and roads.
At the beginning of the game, you need to construct as many large apartment buildings as you can to provide enough room for people to live in.
Neighborhoods crop up automatically when a space is completely filled with streets.
In the house-building mode, there is a construction crane that swings buildings around in the air. Touching the screen causes the crane to drop the block on the ground. Make sure to drop these blocks evenly one on top of the other. Keeping the block symmetrical means that the house will be safer and more attractive for new residents.
The house’s stability is rated with stars at the bottom of the screen. Every house can get a maximum of three stars. When you switch back to city mode, the star rating is displayed above each building.
Move on to the next empty space once a house is completed in order to continue your neighborhood’s expansion. It’s important to fill every square inch of territory with buildings in order to create a successful neighborhood.
Bottom Line:
Generally speaking, I think that Tower Bloxx is a great game with beautiful colors and layout. Not only is it easy and fun to play, but it also reminds of the days when I used to spend hours playing SimCity on my parent’s computer as a kid. The only downside to this game is that it gets a bit repetitive after a while
The Tower Bloxx controls are basically self-explanatory. After selecting the language and sound settings, you come straight to the three playing modes:
In every playing mode, the controls and rules are explained in detail.
Even if you still haven’t completely understood how the game works, the thorough instructions at the beginning of each game should clear things up for you.
On the city building screen (bird’s eye view of all your buildings) you can see your current population and total property value. Once a new street block has appeared, a little menu pops up letting you build, remodel or tear down any buildings.
To build a tower, simply select an adequate location and let the construction begin! During construction, the number of house tenants is displayed at the bottom of the screen. On the left side, you can see how many more buildings blocks are needed to complete the tower.
The self-explanatory controls, detailed menus and accessible explanations make Tower Boxx into a pleasant gaming experience.
While testing Tower Bloxx, I didn’t experience any problems with the app’s speed. Although some of the screens took a second too long to load, the game performed quickly for the most part. No unexpected crashes or shut-downs.
Tower Bloxx Lite is available to download for free from the Android Market.
The full versions Tower Bloxx: My City and Tower Bloxx: New York costs $4.99 each, which is way to expensive for my taste.
