Summary

Energy—it’s a scarce resource as the little robot protagonist in Energy knows all too well. He’s on his way towards the goal and you’re guiding him using a joy stick. Every move has to be well thought-out otherwise you’ll run out of battery power and won’t be able to go on. That means starting all over again from the top. Is Energy an energy-packed game or should you send it packing on a nuclear waste transporter? Find out in today’s review!

Features & Use

Section rating:

Energy is a pretty classic kind of game, the kind that stimulates the little grey cells. Lots of tricky tasks make you use your brain and there are 24 levels you need to master before reaching the goal. The fact that the robot runs on limited energy resources makes the whole thing even more challenging.

Obstacles were made to be overcome. Energy is all about getting through doors that can only open in certain ways and getting passed laser canons that trip you up along the way. There’s also a lever that changes the position of levels.

The game’s biggest challenge is finding the right path. Levels can be repositioned and some doors can simultaneously be opened and locked—it’s enough to drive you up the wall! But your little grey cells won’t let you down: watch, think, and learn and you WILL become a master. Beam me up, Scotty!

If you do manage to fight your way through all 24 levels Energy won’t leave you out in the cold. There’s a level editor that lets you create and play your own levels. You can also download levels created by other users… and to ensure that you’re not downloading a bunch of bullpukey you can consult the ratings user-created levels have received.

- 24 tricky levels
- level editor for creating your own levels
- exchange self-created levels online for free!
- hi-res graphics (on appropriate devices)
- runs on Android 1.6 or higher
- App2SD

Bottom line:

Playing a round of Energy is like diving into the Star Wars era, though whether energy will still be as important a topic then as it is today is debatable. The gameplay gets you to think everything through thoroughly and gives your grey matter a good work out. On the whole it’s a good game that comes with a hidden bonus feature: your Android’s battery may just last a bit longer due to the extra attention you’re paying to limited energy resources.

Screen & Controls

Section rating:

You navigate the little robot using arrow buttons shown on the display. If you want to make him turn or move straight ahead you will have to push an extra button that uses up energy in order to make the extra moves. Sounds a bit weird? Well, you’ll be using that button a fair amount, especially when you get to situations that are contingent on your robot’s moves. Sometimes it’s important to just stay in play for a moment before moving on (e.g. when dealing with the timers on the laser canons).

Keeping on top of things is key as the game field’s format can exceed the display. Change your position by swiping across the screen.

Visually Energy is very reminiscent of R2D2 and co. Even the sound track will let Star Wars fans’ hearts jump for joy.

Speed & Stability

Section rating:

Energy runs really smoothly and even loading bonus levels can be done in the speed of light.

Price/Performance Ratio

Section rating:

Energy can be downloaded for € 1,40 from the App Center. There’s also a free version (Energy LITE) available in the App Center for those who want to test the game out first.
