Summary

Smartphones are little powerhouses and tcan accomplish quite a lot—so much so that the multitude of functions which they can offer can sometimes get to be somewhat overwhelming. At the end of the day the good old fashioned calendar was probably a faster and easier way of keeping on top of things. All you had to do was flip to a date and bam! there it was, your whole day planned out.

Pure Calendar widget (agenda) sets out to provide you with the same conveniences as a traditional calendar, only on your homescreen, and without having to start up any apps whatsoever.

Today’s review lets you know if Pure Calendar widget (agenda) can help make your life a little bit easier.

Features & Use

Section rating:

Test device: HTC Desire with Android 2.2, 2.3
App: runs as of Android 1.5
Authorizations: Internet access, read calendar, writing and editing, send emails to guests, read/write SD

Pure Calendar widget (agenda) is, as its name suggests, a widget for your homescreen which shows you all your appointments and tasks in one fell swoop. You can adapt the widget just as you would a paper calendar, though I’m sorry to say that it can’t do little hearts, scribbles or other obscenities.
You are basically given carte blanche and can design the widget any way you please. It’s up to you to find your ideal configurations. It’s worth investing a bit of extra time because the outcome will be a calendar that’s perfectly adapted to your preferences. Regarding your to-do list/tasks: provided you have an app such as Astrid, they will also be displayed in the widget.

Pure Calendar widget (agenda) accomplishes what it sets out to do really well (with a little help from Google ;). I was pleasantly surprised to see that Pure Calendar widget doesn’t have its own calendar interface (aside from the day-overview one) any longer and can access more or less any calendar app. The developers have made another great change to the app: it’s now possible to invite guests to appointments—super convenient!

Bottom line:

I’ve been using Pure Calendar widget (agenda) since it first came out and I’m still just as thrilled by how easy it’s helped make keeping on top of things for me. The multitude of settings options and designs really are the icing on the cake. It might be an idea to add an option that lets users alter the basic design… I’m sure some users would get a kick out of that!

Screen & Controls

Section rating:

Pure Calendar widget (agenda) can be found in your app overview, but all that’s shown is a (relevant) tutorial on how to use the widget.

When you place a new widget on your homescreen you can choose between 10 different sizes (22x2 – 4x4). Once you’ve made your choice you will be redirected to the settings page where you’ll find the following:

• General
• Calendar
• Tasks
• Colors
• System

Speed & Stability

Section rating:

Pure Calendar widget (agenda) ran really well; in fact, a few of us here at AndroidPIT tested it and we were all very satisfied. Syncing with Google Calendar works like a charm… whether that’s down to Google or the app’s developer is another question ;)

The only kink that occasionally arose was a “Problem loading widget” notification—but that was due to my A2SD solution, and as soon I imported saved settings it didn’t come up any longer.

Price/Performance Ratio

Section rating:

Pure Calendar widget (agenda) costs 1,49€ in the Android Market and 1,77€ in the AndroidPIT App Center and the price is totally justified, especially considering that the developer has a reputation for responding super quickly to emails regarding problems with the app. I didn’t have any problems and so I didn’t have to contact him, but that’s what I’ve heard. That being said, I’m sure there are users out there who will choose to opt for a cheaper or for-free alternative.

Great widget for PI users This is the best widget I have found to have my agenda on my screen. Developer is really responsive to requests.

Love this app, but problems since update Since update, I have to refresh every time I go to the homescreen, or I get a blank (not good when no data available).

The best I tried quite a few calendar widgets. This one is outstanding and the only one I use.

Best agenda widget I use both this and the pure grid calendar widget. Once you learn how to use the settings which can take some experimenting these are the most useful apps I have on my phone.

Now works with PI3 - excellent! Very prompt response to request for Pocket Informant 3 to be added as a task source. Works perfectly - thank you.

Great functions & support Application provides an excellent mix of out-of-box functionality, great customization and clean design. Even after many months - or is it already years? - it keeps its sleek design and good functionality. And did I mention author is very responsive as it comes to bug reports? I really do recommend this application.

No Problems on Galaxy Nexus Jelly Bean I've checked out some other widgets and no matter what I keep coming back to Pure Calendar. Excellent developer support. Love the support of Team Tasks and lock screen widget.

Super responsive developer I switched my tasks app to Team Tasks due to lower memory use and faster and more reliable syncing than the one I was using previously. However, the agenda widget app I was using then displayed my task dates incorrectly. I gave this app a try, but it had the same problem. I emailed the developer and he sent me a beta version to try within an hour! And it indeed fixed the problem. Not only that, but this app uses less memory than my old agenda widget (my phone is memory-impaired), so I'm going to stick with Pure Calendar. Thanks, Francois!

Don't get the point What I was hoping to do was to merge my tasks that had a time associated with it into my calender. Instead I just got a list of my tasks. I guess this is handy if you want everything into one place, but I don't see the value in it and it is hard to setup.

Great app, responsive dev. Configuration interface is somewhat confusing.

Great! Hope it will expand. Use it for a few years as my home page calendar. Three phones are gone, but Pure Calendar stays! Simply a great app. I wish though it would support Zoho (I use it) and may be Office 360 calendars.

Team Tasks I want to try this, but there is no v.1.3.7. I'd out coming? I'd like to request adding ProDo Tasks to the list.

Excellent app on both phone and tablet One of the lone apps I truly can't live without. Downloaded it years ago on my original android phone and has been an immediate install with every new device.
