Where the hell did all my memory space go? Did I really install the many apps? And is there a way I can stop random apps from automatically running after every start-up? Refine Efficiency Pro is designed to dust away the rubbish from your phone and boos your performance. Find out how efficient this app really is in our test report.
Refine Efficiency Pro is supposed to help you get more out of your Android smartphone by giving you the following cleanup tools:
On top of that, the app allows you to combine all of these cleaners (except for the startup manager) into a single one-click solution for getting rid of all the junk on your device.
Task Killer
Android task killers are pretty straight-forward, but I would still like to take the time this particular one.
Here you can select which apps you would like to kill or the ones that you would like to be spared. That’s just like any regular task killer out on the market, but Refine Efficiency does offer something more. You can have the app exclude a certain number of recently opened apps from being killed. The list can be adjusted according to RAM used and includes a detailed status for every task: service (better leave that alone), inactive, visible, background, foreground. Please be carefully when selecting to kill all apps because the app will literally kill everything (and I mean everything) with no additional warning! This app is so ruthless that it manages to kill everything including itself in the process. Be warned!
Cache Cleaner
In order to use this feature, you’ll have to have a rooted device (find out more information in our Forum). Refine Efficiency lists all your installed apps (it takes a couple of seconds to load the complete list) and shows how large each cache is. Usually, the cache is stored in the internal memory (right there where your apps are installed). Obviously, the cache is meant to help speed your app’s speed. For most people, however, caches can take up space that they would rather use to install more apps. In any case, most of the data stored in a cache isn’t very recent in any case.
On rooted devices, you can wipe your entire list (all marked apps) with one click of a button or select specific app caches to be deleted. On my device, I had about 49MB of space left on my internal memory. After cleaning, I increased that number by 18MB to a grand total of 67MB – a significant improvement!
Browser History Cleaner
Helps you clear your browser’s memory.
Market History Cleaner
Cleans away all your recently searched and opened apps from the Market history.
Startup Manager
This feature lists the apps (unfortunately not all of them) that boot automatically at startup. Select an app opens up a pop-up: here you can either turn automatic start-up off or look at more detailed information about the app. Once you’ve deactivated an app, it is marked with a green checkmark.
The app never explains what mechanisms it uses to prevent automatic startup, so that you are left wondering whether all these changes remain in place after uninstalling Refine Efficiency.
1 Click Action / Scheduler
Several of these cleaners can be combined into a one-click action (e.g. Cache Cleaner + Market History Cleaner). That way you are spared the time and hassle of picking and choosing which cleaner to use. You can also set up an automated scheduler that can clean your phone at every startup or at a specific time interval.
Bottom Line:
The app’s startup manager isn’t as good as apps like Startup Auditor or Autostarts, but Refine Efficiency is superb in all other regards.
Even on the small display of the HTC Widlfire, Refine Efficiency Pro looked clean and well-organized. The controls are very intuitive, as well. The one-click action is especially useful in getting rid of all the useless clutter on your phone. Again, it’s important to make sure and be careful when using the taks killer.
You can find complete documentation on the project’s website.
Although it may take a while to load for the various lists to load, this problem is something all task killer/cleaner apps have in common. Aside from that, Refine Efficiency Pro runs smoothly and efficiently.
Refine Efficiency Pro is also available as a free demo version in the Market, but it only allows you to use the taks killer. To enjoy the full set of features, you can download the full version for $0.99 from the Market.
