Summary

Psycho: a classic movie, right there on your Android phone! If you’re already thinking of your next Halloween costume and are looking for a very, *ahem*, avant-garde (or at least very state of the art) accessory, why not whip out a virtual lethal weapon on your phone? I mean, as an alternative to sporting a rubber chicken or cardboard knife.

What can Psycho Droid do for you? It can turn your Android phone into a very realistic looking kitchen knife, all the while playing the Psycho soundtrack to set the right mood. If that’s just what you’ve always dreamed of and more, read on!

Features & Use

Section rating:

First impressions: Norman, is it really you?

Halloween shouldn’t be the only occasion to try out weird and whacky things, Let your freak flag fly, I say! This Android app lets you explore your dark fantasies and drag others into a dangerous virtual world with you… provided that you are looking to give people a fright by going after them with a virtual knife.

Features:

  • Options for right and left handed players
  • Switch blood on/off
  • Switch the classic shower curtain scene theme (with optional bass) on/off

Rotate your device to and fro in order to get the knife to move around the display. If you’re so inclined, there’s an option to have very realistic splashed of blood splatter across the display, while the classic shower curtain theme sets the mood.

Bottom line:

If you go for this type of thing you will certainly get a kick out of Psycho Droid, and a few horrified reactions and amused smirks are guaranteed. That being said, this app can’t do much more than produce a knife on your screen, and that's about all the use you'll get out of it... If you're looking to chase people down corridors brandishing virtual, Hitchcockian knives, this is the app for you!

Screen & Controls

Section rating:

Psycho Droid’s setup is a relatively simple one. There’s a main screen which features the kitchen knife on a backdrop of white tiles. The configurations options can be found in the menu. As mentioned, the app is quite a basic one, so controls are, as one would expect, not overly complicated.

Speed & Stability

Section rating:

Click on the app icon and Psycho Droid will start up immediately—and you’re all set to attack someone with a virtual knife. Erm, yes. However, the app did crash on several occasions throughout the testing phase.

Price/Performance Ratio

Section rating:

Psycho Droid can be downloaded for free from the Android Market.

Why are people saying this is from Scream? It's a PSYCHO reference from the movie PSYCHO, thus the name of the app!! ... You're about 50 years off!!!

Doesnt work on my Captivate.

Works as advertised, but the graphics are crappy and it's a pretty useless app for the rating. It's rated as mature, but it's mostly suitable for kids
