Sometimes my sense of humor tends to rub people the wrong way. Not everyone is as big a fan of dark humor as I am (except for the British, perhaps). While browsing through the market, I came across a game that may offend some people’s sensibilities, but fits in perfectly with my sense of humor. Having played the game for a while let me share my impressions of aGibbets.
Can an offensive game be fun as well? Find out in our test report.
In aGibbets you have to save hanged people from imminent death by shooting through the ropes. Does it really get any more disturbing that that? As much as people might hate me for saying this, the game is actually a lot of fun to play.
The people are hanging all around the screen and you have to free them using a bow and arrow. The game actually reminded me of Angry Birds because of the fact that each level gets progressively more challenging.
You have a limited amount of arrows and you have to play against the clock since the hanging people can’t survive for very long. By looking at the green bar next to each person, you can tell how much time they have left to live.
Be careful: hitting the person instead of the rope takes away precious seconds from the hanging person’s life. That’s why you have to find a balance between speed and accuracy. When you successfully cut through the rope, the person is liberated and falls to the ground.
Another thing to watch out for: the order in which you free the hanging people is important because the body of a fallen person can block your ability to shoot through the rope of another.
For those of you that are into games that require a lot of skill and logic to kill the time, aGibbets is a great option! Tolerance for a gruesome sense of humor is also a must.
The menu in aGibbets is slick and clearly organized with a lot of attention to detail. There are over 30 levels available, but I would love to see an additional 30 levels soon.
In the game itself there is one big problem: the bow is very sensitive to the touch. In theory, you are supposed to put your finger on the bow and pull back to shoot. The bow is so tiny on the screen that it’s pretty difficult to adjust get the trajectory and power just right. Although the game has the potential to be just as fun as Angry Birds, the controls aren’t nearly as good.
There weren’t any apparent lags, crashes or unexpected errors during gameplay. I did, however, experience a black screen when I started up aGibbets after closing it with the home button. I don’t know what the reason behind that was, but that left an unpleasant impression on me
aGibbets is financed through ads and can be downloaded for free from the Google Market. All in all, it’s a really addictive and entertaining free game that is bound to make people like me laugh while others stare in disbelief.
