Summary

NetMeter is small but mighty in the sense that it’s a very useful tool for the Android platform. NetMeter allows you to monitor and control your network data traffic (WLAN/UMTS/GPRS); it also provides you with updates on the processor’s CPU utilization.

Features & Use

Section rating:

NetMeter has two functions:

• It displays data traffic (WLAN/UMTS/GPRS)
• It also displays the CPU utilization of individual CPU processes.

Now, while this might not look like much, users don’t tend to want or to need to know more than what this tool offers, so in my book the app delivers.

I very much appreciate that the NetMeter can run in the background without gobbling up too much CPU (approximately 3%). This means you can have NetMeter running in the background without giving it a second thought.

Screen & Controls

Section rating:

NetMeter is quite a basic tool that comes with only the above mentioned two functions. However, that also means that controls are very simple seeing as the entire programme consists of one single main display.

The homescreen is really well set up: the design is clear-cut and straight-forward and its restricted to the most important and relevant information. This gives the app an overall tidy and efficient look and feel.

Data traffic and CPU load are displayed as two graphs and texts.

A menu also allows you to select a time unit.

Speed & Stability

Section rating:

NetMeter doesn’t claim to be able to perform a whole lot of different tasks, but what it can do it does very well.

Throughout our test run of NetMeter it proved to be stabile, fast and dependable, even when it was running in the background. A few of us at the office have been using the app for a while now and it has never crashed on any of us.

Price/Performance Ratio

Section rating:

NetMeter is available for free from the Android Market.
A data flatrate is not strictly necessary in order to run this app.

Seems not to be able to see any traffic at all on my SE X10 2.3.3. CPU-Monitor works, though, and that was what I was actually looking for.
BFG, Jul 31, 2011
Inaccurate. Misses about 50% of data transferred.
Leon, Apr 8, 2011
Oh come on, Android has better way to monitor network than always running in the background and being inaccurate.

5 stars if it would remember graph scale. It resets to 24 hours every time you go back.

Great! Could you change the background color for the graph?
John, Oct 2, 2010
Like it. Simple and easy to use. Possible to show data traffic per app in future?
Arvind, Sep 20, 2010
Great! But same as martin, would like cumulative stats. Droid X10.
Idris, Sep 9, 2010
Very handy! I just wish the status bar icon was an indicator of network traffic so I could see if there were any tx/rx events at all times.
Martin, Aug 30, 2010
Great app. Any chance it could save cumulative stats between sessions

Works great!

Rasha, May 16, 2010
Very nice - thanks! I'd like to see: tap on a graph to show tasks sorted by that metric; CPU usage history for each task; sort by mem usage.

Nice app but would like to see stats by application running
