Even before the days of smartphones and apps, almost every basic cell phone came with a built-in currency convertor. They were essentially nothing more than regular calculators since it was up to you to enter in the latest currency rates from the internet or the daily newspaper. Thankfully, things have a gone a long way since then and the XE Currency app can do all the hard work for you.
Regardless of what currency you’re looking for, XE Currency has got you covered. The app lists the latest rate for even the most obscure and remote countries (anyone ever heard of Ouguiyas – Mauritania’s national currency?). So whether you’re converting between Russian rubles and Turkish lira or American dollars and Albanian leke - it’s all a piece of cake with XE Currency.
You can add as many different currencies as you like to your list of currencies. The cool thing is that you can rearrange the order in which these currencies appear.
Simply long-tap any currency to enter in a value to convert. This opens up a mini calculator window at the bottom of the screen. This allows you to make any necessary calculations in one currency before converting the result into another. The app then automatically converts the value into all the currencies that you’ve added to your personal currency list. With just one action you can see, for example, the different between pounds, euros, dollars and yen. Now that’s an extremely useful feature for frequent travelers. As I mentioned, everything is fully customizable so you can add, delete and rearrange your currencies at will.
Another near gimmick: shaking the phone resets the currency rates to the base value of 1.
In the Settings, you can adjust the update frequency from every minute to daily. If you don’t have a data plan or are planning on roaming broad, you can set the app to update only when connected via Wi-Fi.
Bottom Line:
Given the fact the XE Currency is the go-to website for up-to-date currency rates, it comes as no surprise that their app performs so well. The XE Currency convertor is extremely simple, straight-forward and efficient. In short, it’s the perfect currency convertor for Android.

As I said, XE Currency is first and foremost an extremely functional app so it’s not exactly beautiful in terms of layout and design. Nevertheless, each currency is decorated with the respective national flag – a small but thoughtful touch. All the button are clearly visible and marked, giving you a good overview of all the currencies at a single glance.
As far as controls are concerned, you’ll need to long tap in order to enter in a currency value. It took me a while to figure this out on my own, but it's not a major concern. Press the menu button to edit your currency list and access your settings. There's also a useful Help section will of the most frequently asked questions.

The app is lightning fast as it only takes a few seconds for the app to update the currencies to the most current rate. XE Currency is simple and therefore extremely fast, which is exactly what travellers abroad are looking for.

Just keep in mind that the XE Currency rates don't necessarily match the ones that your bank uses or the local currency exchange (they love to rip you off).

Simple and reliable Great tool. Would be best if timeline/graphs for specific currencies can be displayed without being linked to browser.
