Requires Android: from 1.6
Summary
Grocery shopping is dreadful. The endless supermarket aisles, the grumpy old people, the terrible intercom announcements – the entire experience can be downright depressing. And the worst part about it is that you end up forgetting half of what you were supposed to buy in the first place.
To prevent any marital disputes about forgetting to buy the right groceries, there’s Grocery Smart - Shopping List – an Android app custom designed to make grocery shopping more efficient without cluttering your brain with long lists of stuff to buy.
Features & Use
Forget about those pesky yellow sticky notes and chuck those scribbled paper grocery lists in the garbage. Grocery Smart allows you to create your own customizable shopping lists for everyone struggling to commit their shopping needs to memory.
Since convenience is key to a good shopping list app, Grocery Smart has everything laid out clearly on the start page in two big buttons: New List and My Cards.
Tap on New List to create a personalized grocery list, which includes a specific list name. This allows you to create separate lists for school supplies, work-related shopping and your personal groceries.
Once you’ve created a list, simply tap the + button at the bottom of the page to add items. The app comes with a thorough catalog of groceries and items, organized meticulously by category. You can search for specific products by either browsing through the categories or simply entering in the first few letters of what you need. To make things even more convenient, the app automatically searches and suggests products as you search for them, which is a real time-saver. Should the specific item be missing from list of default items, simply type in any product and add it to your list - now that’s what I call divine simplicity.
Another key feature is the My Cards section where you can keep your entire discount cards organized. You can directly scan and upload the barcodes of all your loyalty cards (having a barcode scanner installed is an obvious prerequisite) to be stored in the app. So instead of carrying a load of different discount cards, the cashier can simply scan the barcode from your phone’s screen. It’s a really genius idea and I’m glad to see that it’s an integral part of Grocery Smart. If your card doesn’t have a barcode, you can type in the number manually.
Last but not least, Grocery Smart also comes with a web client that synchs up perfectly with your smartphone. You can set up an account from your Android (signing up with your Facebook account is also an option) or directly at the Grocery Smart website. From there you can manage your grocery lists from your computer while keeping them up-to-date on your smartphone – a perfect combination. Working on your grocery list can now be a team effort as you can share your list with friends, family and roommates. More cooperation, less arguing and a whole lot more efficient.
Bottom Line: Grocery Smart - Shopping List is everything you could ever wish from a grocery list app. There may be many options out there, but Grocery Smart combines ingenuity and user-friendliness, making it a useful tool for families and friends. Whether you need to keep things organized in the apartment you share with your roommates or do not want to get yelled at by your spouse for forgetting to buy toilet paper – Grocery Smart is the logical solution.
Screen & Controls
One of the greatest things about Grocery Smart - Shopping List is that it manages to present a boring grocery list in a stylish wrapper. In terms of layout, design and color scheme, Grocery Smart is virtually irreproachable. Large self-explanatory buttons make navigating the app a breeze. No hidden buttons or settings – everything is located right in front of you on the main screen. Every time you check off an item, it gets crossed out and taken out of the list with a neat little animation. Small details like this make the entire experience very enjoyable. Because with any grocery app the main point is to save time and make time more efficient. You don’t want to spend five minutes fiddling with your phone while shopping. Grocery Smart has really taken this point to heart and made one of the best possible grocery apps out there. Bravo!
Speed & Stability
The transitions between menus, the intial start up and general navigation are nice and snappy. Grocery Smart - Shopping List didn’t crash a single time under my watch, so I can safely assume that the app is sturdy and reliable.
Price/Performance Ratio
Grocery Smart - Shopping List can be downloaded for free from the AndroidPIT Market.
