Thanks to all of the immense progress being made in the realm of graphics, there is now room for high-end first person shooters on Android. CONTRACT KILLER: ZOMBIES is vying for top spot among Android games with mind-blowing graphics and cool game play. Find out just how thrilling it is to kill zombies on your phone in today’s review.
Blasting away zombies is one of the most relaxing and satisfying ways to spend your free time. So the people from the Glu studio decided to jump on the zombie bandwagon and developed one hell of a game. The whole thing is set in a wonderful story about – surprise, surprise - the upcoming zombie apocalypse filled with top-notch graphics. Sounds like the recipe for a perfect shooter. But what can CONTRACT KILLER: ZOMBIES offer besides good looks?
The background story couldn’t be any more stereotypical. The world has been overrun by zombies (no one knows exactly why, but it’s surely some sort of killer virus) and you, the shooter, are the only survivor. Not only are you the only one still alive, but you’re also in a wheelchair for some inexplicable reason. Your mission is to help the beautiful but miserable Evelyn out of this zombie-infested city alive. Your goal is to stockpile supplies and rescue survivors from this godforsaken place.
Because you’re stuck in a wheelchair, you can only look around, aim and shoot zombies. Contract Killer – Zombies is one of those few games that gets everything right. There’s an awesome selection of weapons (revolver, machine guns, grenade launchers, shotguns) that you can purchase with virtual or real money. For every mission you can have a primary and secondary weapon. Once you’re armed to your teeth, off you go to mow down those zombies! It’s up to you to aim, reload and switch weapons while you’re playing. That’s it. The rest of the game is just about one thing, and one thing only: filling those zombies up with lead! It’s gruesome, it’s unethical perhaps, but it sure is fun. Contract Killer – Zombies manages to stick to the nitty-gritty awesomeness of zombies without any perks and extras.
There is a whole variety of different zombies (slow ones, fast ones and really strong guys) and can be hit in different areas. A headshot kills a zombie on the spot, a chest wound inflicts serious damage and a shot in the leg barely does anything.
There are three different types of missions:
In addition to the various missions, there is also the main story line that you have to follow, marked with an exclamation mark. Missions can be selected on the map, but it’s up to you to decide which one to play first. There’s a great deal of overlap between the different levels and after a while most of them start to look identical. After awhile, you start feeling like you’ve been running in circle. There is literally no difference between the main storyline missions and the extra missions on the side, except for the fact that some are at night and others are in daylight.
It would’ve been nice to see a bit more action like bosses at the ends of levels or surprise ambushes. In reality, though, things are much less entertaining with just three different types of levels. The most annoying thing of all is that some weapons are so expensive that you can only acquire them by actually buying with your very real credit card. The game may be free, but it’s nearly impossible to get anywhere without parting with some of your hard-earned dollars.
Bottom Line: Contract Killer – Zombies is without a doubt an amazing first-person shooter. The game does, however, need a bit more of an edge to make it more entertaining. And the worst part is that it’s difficult to make serious progress with honest gameplay. All in all, it’s a wonderful game with a couple of small drawbacks.
The graphics are freaking awesome! It’s like having a Playstation 2 game righ on your Android. The people and zombies in the game may not look perfect, but they’re very close to it. The animation is solid and professional throughout whether it’s the loading screen or the zombie movements. CONTRACT KILLER: ZOMBIES has done its homework and the end results are impressive. The controls are also great i.e. extremely intuitive and easy-to-use. The only thing missing is the ability to adjust how sensitive the controls are. Aside from that the game is pure perfection.
Didn’t experience any sort of crashes or reliability issues. The only real problem is the game speed because these kinds of graphics require some serious hardware. On the Nexus S and Xperia Arc the game works perfectly except for a couple of one second lags. Any device with a CPU under 1GHz will surely have a much more difficult time playing the game. Please let everyone know how CONTRACT KILLER: ZOMBIES runs on your particular device by sharing that information in the comments!
CONTRACT KILLER: ZOMBIES is available for free and without any ads on the Android Market. Some of the more hardcore weapons can only be acquired with real money. On the bright side, everything else in the game is totally free. On the whole, the game is extremely difficult, but definitely doable if you are a good gamer.
