If you’re ever in the kind of situation in which you are desperate to remember something, but you are so rushed that you don’t even have time to write whatever it is down? (Images of writers and filmmakers who want to record their dreams as inspiration sources, fumbling for pen and paper in the dark come to mind…) If you’ve considered purchasing a good old fashioned dictaphone, stop! and read on, because VoiceMemo is basically a Dictaphone for your Android device.

First impressions: a practical, straight-forward kind of app that delivers. Nothing fancy, but you get what’s advertised, i.e. an Android voice recorder app.


VoiceMemo’s design certainly won’t dazzle you: no fancy buttons, just a plain black display with two large buttons in the right corner. The whole thing has a distinctly 90s kind of vibe about it (read: grey, or rather grey and black).


The thing about dictaphones is that a multitude of functions is often more detrimental than useful. What they should be able to do is record voice messages, and record them well. And that’s the case with VoiceMemo. Recorded messages can be labeled with time and date, though – unfortunately – not with a title.
In order to playback a message, simply click on it. Long click in order to delete a recording.


Bottom line:
VoiceMemo is a good app that doesn’t do very much, but it does what it promises and this quite well.

 

Screen & Controls

Again, the VoiceMemo look can be described as Spartan at best. The buttons are ugly in my opinion, but, again, the app’s aesthetic design is secondary to its actual functionality.
Controls are nice and simple, and very easy to use.
 

Speed & Stability

VoiceMemo ran very smoothly throughout our test runs. One click on the icon and the app pops up immediately.

OK Works OK but recording stops immed when phone sleeps. Don't want to change power mode for one a pp; suggestion: when app is active keep phone from sleeping, voila! Samsung galaxyS

Captivate CM7 Simple. Rock solid voicememo replacement. Small footprint. Easy file access to copy for archival and sharing. Does 1 thing and does it well. Recommended.

Works well This is a simple recorder for quickly taking short memos while on the go. The controls are record/stop, listen, & delete. It does what it was designed to do - not for recording phone calls or lectures.

VoiceMemo I like VoiceMemo very much. It's easy to use & reliable. Playback clarity is quite good. This is a great app!
