Summary
Let's all go to the movies! Or, erm, lobby, but whatever the lyrics to that song may be, you get where I'm coming from, right? Going to the cinema, movie theatre, picture show house or whatever you might call it is a thrilling experience each and every time, and, as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't even matter whether I love the film or hate it—there's just something about watching movies on the big screen in a big dark room.
If you haven't been going to the movies much lately it's either because you're at home on the sofa watching pirate copies of films, or because you don't know what's showing at the moment. Movie Finder promises to change the latter, so let's take a closer look, shall we?
Features & Use
First things first: Movie Finder does not support all locations, so please check whether your current location is covered!
The idea behind and structure of the application is brilliantly efficient and simple at once:
- Enter your current location via GPS or text field (zip/area/postal code)
- Display films that are currently showing and/or cinemas in your vicinity
- View detailed information via IMDb link
When you first load the app you are asked to enter your current location / zip / area / postal code. If you need to change your location at a later point in time you can do so by going through the settings.
The additional information for films and cinemas/movie theatres is great, and there are links to the IMDb pages and/or movie theatre homepages (when available).
Bottom line:
Movie Finder is a useful little app that's well set up, but it's major drawback is that it doesn't support all locations (Canada, UK and USA are supported, but please check if the service is available to you if you are located elsewhere). Hence, we are awarding Movie Finder three stars in the category, knowing it would score higher if it were more readily available.
Screen & Controls
Movie Finder has a great UI that's easy to navigate, and the graphics give an overall 'tidy' kind of look to the app. Controls are very simple.
Speed & Stability
Movie Finder takes all of three seconds to load, and while a disclaimer warns that looking up a film/cinema may take up to one minute it never took longer than 10 seconds throughout our test rounds.
