I'm just going to come right out and say it: of all the games on the Market at the moment, I like EDGE the best. The game is relatively unknown, but I'm bonkers about it. Read on to find out what's so special about this game.

You can like a game, you can appreciate certain aspects of it or even be impressed by certain functions, the gameplay or the design—but not every game manages to totally captivate your attention for hours on end. That sort of devoted attention requires a mix of certain elements that manages to generate a new kind of atmosphere. Mirror's Edge (artistic minimalism), Gothic I and Gothic II (dirty, decadent medieval vibe) are games that have enthralled me in the past... And now there's EDGE.
The gameplay
Upon first glance the game seems all sorts of boring: there's a die that needs to be moved around a level. That's it. But the whole thing has been designed superbly—minimalism at its best, a dominant white pallet and geometric shapes.
The geometric structures keep morphing, so suspense and surprises are guaranteed.
Music
The soundtrack strikes me as being the love child of the music from Tron (the film) and Kraftwerk (the band). It compliments the design and really contributes to the overall atmosphere.
The game is ace—it's as simple as that
The player has to collect prisms, jump atop of flying blocks, switch things on and off. And there are lots of challenges: e.g. balancing the die right on the edge of a structure brings in more points.
In order to get a good score you need to 1) finish the level as quickly as possible, 2) collect all of the prisms and 3) not die.
Bottom line:
Not all of our readers will be as enthusiastic about EDGE as I am—it's kind of a ploarising game. I really like it, and it makes a welcome change from the whole Angry Birds & clones hype.
Retro-futurism + great gameplay = a brilliant game.
Whether you love it or hated you have to admit that the EDGE design is unique. I personally like it a lot and find that it contributes to the game's overall enjoyment. It's a great mix of retro and futuristic aesthetics.
Controls are good, too: the die can be pulled in any given direction. The sensor controls are not supported on the Nexus S, but I wasn't particularly bothered by this as touchscreen controls are more precise.
Good, but not great. The first time I started up the game it crashed. After having gotten off to such a bad start, EDGE ran fluidly on the Nexus S.
How awesome is this: EDGE is available for free from the Android Market. There are ad banners, but they're not too obtrusive.
