For all those die-hard fans of what is indubitably one of the best medical comedy-dramas of all times, Scrubs Lite should come as a delightful surprise. Is the application worth your time? Find out in today’s review.
First things first: what’s Scrubs Lite the game all about?
Well, you slip into the role of a young med assistant at Sacred Heart and your objective is to take care of all of your duties, even the really naff ones. But rest assured that your duties are less those of an aspiring physician than those of a sort of detective/janitor: you have to go around retrieving lost objects and getting rid of rubbish. The goal is to get to the bottom of whatever mystery you’re presented with. This is true of the lite version we’re testing for you today—check out the full version if you’re interested in more mini-games.
You start off by downloading the game, and please be advised that it will take up a whopping 30 MB. Select a language and continue on to the app’s main menu.
The first level serves as a tutorial, making learning how to play a piece of cake. In the first level you will come face to face with the infamous and very unpleasant actual Sacred Heart janitor.
In the second – and, alas, only – level of the free version you will meet Carla Espinosa and Dr. Percival ‘Perry’ Ulysses Cox, the hospital’s head physician, otherwise known as Dr. Cox. These characters send you on a mission to retrieve objects and if you’re familiar with the TV show you will recognise some of the places you will visit along the way. Simply press on an object in order to collect or dump an object and complete the level in doing so. Sometimes you will have to follow a certain sequence in order to succeed, for instance apply disinfectant before removing a rotting hot dog—yum. If ever you should get stuck you can make use of one of the four available jokers.
Bottom line:
This demo version is really just a taster of what the actual game has in store for you. You get the gist of how the game works, and you get to try your hand at it, but that’s about it.
Fortunately, the spirit and humour that many of us know and love from the television series is also present in the game version. Scrubs Lite leaves you wanting more, and I simply had to download the full version.
Please note that translated texts are not perfect in all of the available languages, but this does not impede on how enjoyable the game is.
Also, a lot of users left comments in the Android Market lamenting that the game is as short as it is—as mentioned, Scrubs Lite is a demo version. If you want to enjoy more levels you will have to purchase the full version.
Top score in this department for Scrubs Lite. Why? Because Scrubs stays very true to the spirit, humour and charm of the television series.
This is above all a hidden objects game, but the screen never seems too cluttered or confusing. Controls are also very good.
Scrubs Lite is certainly very stabile, but the loading times are too long. That said, please bear in mind that we tested this application with Android 4.0.3 on a Nexus S and that the game has not yet been optimised for the most recent Android versions. My lovely colleagues from the Russian team tested the application with Android 2.3.5 and it performed much better—very fluid and fast.
Why are we awarding only four stars to a free game? Because Scrubs Lite is a demo version and it harbours only two levels. If you want to keep playing you will have to buy the full version. So basically you’re appetite is being whetted but you’re being denied the main course, which you can download for EUR1,58, a fair enough price for such an entertaining game.
