Assurski- Enjoy Winter Sports Without Worries
Tested version: 1.0.4
Latest version: 1.1
Requires Android: from 2.1
Summary
Winter's icy hand is gripped firmly around Europe at the moment, brushing aside all thoughts of global warming and making most wish they had a good coat. But in the mountains winter sports fans are polishing their skis and dusting off their snowboards. Personally, I've been skiing as long as I can remember but despite my years of experience, I also had an accident on the slopes and need an entire ski patrol troupe with helicopter to get me safely home.
You can imagine how expensive that would have been, if we hadn't been insured. Assurski is an insurance plan developed with the avid skier in mind and with their new Android app, users can stay in contact with their insurance provider no matter what happens.
How does the app work? And how could it have helped me? Find answers to this and more in our test report.
Features & Use
It was the end of the 80's. I was skiing in the French Alps with my father and another family– two adults and two children– when we ran into trouble. The slopes were amazing, amazing snow and good visibility despite light clouds. Late in the afternoon, a fog bank rolled in and covered the mountain in a blanket of fog so thick that we couldn't see more then 10 feet in front of us. With the fog obscuring the guard rails, we quickly lost our way. The steep mountain face we were confronted with proved to be a real problem for the other children skiing with us. We didn't have a choice– we needed to get off the mountain to somehow find our way again. After a tricky decent, my father and I (all of 10 years old) tried to help the other children work their way down when the fog lifted as quickly as it had come. We had worked our way into a valley flooded with sunlight with nerry a ski lift or any other way of getting out of the valley in sight. Trying to get back over the mountain wasn't an option so we started wandering as night began to fall. Thankfully, we managed to find a mountain cabin but, to our dismay, discovered it didn't have a phone or any other way of contacting the outside world. My step-mother, who had stayed behind, called the mountain rescue around 8 PM and they sprang into action. Several hours later, they found my father who had attempted to find help. The next morning, they managed to locate the remainder of us and bring us to safety with the help of a helicopter.
If we hadn't had been insured, our mistake could have cost us over $10,000!
You probably don't have to ask, if I think there is a point to ski insurance. The mountians can surprise even the most experienced among us. Even if you have insurance, you should double check exactly how you are covered.
Assurski offers plans that are designed for winter sports fans. For around $3 a day, Assurski covers:
- Medical treatment including transportation costs.
- Search and rescue operations.
- Equipment replacement.
- Liability costs for third parties
- Cancellation costs for transportation and hotel fees
- Coverage off the slopes as well.
With a few clicks, users can expand of alter their coverage without having to contact Assurski directly. You can set the start and end dates of your policy with the app so your policy fits your schedule. The app also registers your location so that police and rescue crew can find you if need be.
Conclusion:
You should decided for yourself, if you need this type of insurance and just how your policy should be structured. Assurski is an attractive option, as it protects you both on an off the slopes and it covers accidents that can occur during extreme sports including races and at snow parks.
Assurski is a great app for all ski and mountaineering fans!
Screen & Controls
Besides what we've already discussed, the app doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles. Assurski's user interface is simple and to the point. Working with the app is easy– exactly as it should be.
Speed & Stability
Assurski is stable and didn't crash at all while we were using it. It requires a few extra permissions so you can call your insurance agent directly from the app.
Price/Performance Ratio
Assurski is free in the Android Market or in the AndroidPIT App Center but once you are insured it costs around $3 per day for as long as you choose to continue the policy. We haven't compared prices with other insurance companies and customers should check what's available in their area.
